Hello..I currently got the VRSF FMIC kit and am relocating the trans cooler to the old SMIC location. My question is....can you just cut the lines, get longer hoses, mount the cooler (with appropriate ducting for airflow) and be good to go? In addition, does the orientation of the feed/return lines matter? (originally the lines were on top and now they are on the side) From what I gathered from searching, the orientation doesnt matter with some of the coolers, but it does with others...

I am trying to stay with the stock trans cooler btw, I would prefer NOT to get an aftermarket one if not absolutely necessary.

The vehicle is a 99 GST auto

Thank you for any and all help. If anyone has pictures too...it would GREATLY appreciated :thumb:

I run the same kit and also relocated my trans cooler to the stock sidemout side. I replaced all of the lines with new ones and loved the fact that the lines were way shorter then stock now. I ditched the stock dinky cooler for the biggest on the extreme psi sells, the B&M super cooler. Very good cooler IMO. For stock boost the factory cooler is fine, but since you are adding a FMIC i am under the assumption you want to make more power then stock. Heat is the number one killer of autos and with more power comes more heat. Hopefully you reconsider later on a larger cooler. I also reccomend a trans temp gauge. As for the lines i run the inlet through the bottom and the outlet is at the top. This configuration has worked fine on my car and temps rarly went over 150* , even on warm summer days daily driven. This is the only pic i have of my cooler and if you have any questions let me know.

You can see the brass tee fitting for the trans temp sending unit. I have it on the outlet side due to if my cooler is failing/not cooling enough, i want to know.

That does help...I am reconsidering going aftermarket now. Is there any way to get pictures of how you mounted the cooler itself and/or ducted it for airflow?

Ok ill try to get better pics with light for you. I dont have any duct work fabbed up but i am going to purchase the OEM SMIC ducting and simply use that. I tossed mine a few years back before i moved my trans cooler.

Old thread but better than starting a new one, I just moved my stock cooler to the smic location as well using new 3/8ths oil resistant hose, anyone have any input on my setup? Just want to make sure it's done right before I put everything back together
