So i have a 95 gst auto that burnt the end clutch. I replaced it, works great till the car warms up. When it warms up it slips the clutches. The only reason i can think it would do this is if the trans is running to hot, but if you all have any ideas for me to check let me know.

What trans cooler would be a good upgrade and need a good idea for placement.

I was thinking off using a truck trans cooler since money is pretty tight.

He's referring to Diaqueen 3, but any ATF+4 works fine. What temp is your trans running at?

I am installing the AMS ATF cooler kit on my 1G with and inline sensor feeding a full sweep electric gauge...

I do not know yet but i am sure its heat related.

Today took it for a nice drive no beating on it (outside temp is 4) the over drive didnt slip till around 4 miles of stop and go. but two days ago when it was 40 the over drive slipped less than 2 miles.

but i do want to put a trans temp gauge and find out whats going on. do you have any ideas where i can buy a kinda cheap temp gauge at?

Well if your transmission is slipping under normal driving then you have might have some other problem just overheating because the stock trans cooler should just enough to help keep the temps on the trans a bit low, but its always a better idea to upgrade.

But if really do want get a better/bigger/cheap trans cooler I would suggest that you just head out to your local junk yard and keep an eye out for a mid-late 90's chevy suburban and take out the stock transmission cooler. They have a stack plate design.

Those things are huge and a great upgrade for us guys with an auto dsm without breaking the bank.

I was thinking of that same thing to day, about the 90s suburban.

but main reason i think its heat related is the trans cool line by the exhaust manifold is cut and looks rigged, but not leakin. I was going to just blow the stock cooler out till i seen that. So pay next pay check getting a cooler, and flush all the old crap out of it and make sure the level is right.

Well I put on a trans cooler, new filter, and fresh atf 4. Still I only have overdrive for like 5 miles. The car shifts better now and temps are down but they are still slippin. and I notice last time I was at a junk yard. All the other cars that were autos, the overdrive case had a lot more trans fluid in it than mine.

so now i believe something is blockin the flow of fluid to the overdrive. does any one know what would block it? or how to clean it out?

I searched and search must be lookin in the wrongs places, but does anyone have a diagram of the auto w4a trans? cause this stuff is pissin me off.

Yeah could be your end clutch thats going out. Another thing to watch out for is the valve body. sometimes it can get really dirty and get stuck keeping your trans from changing gears/restrict oil flow.

I actually just finished installing a translab shift kit on an extra valve body I have. I would recommend that if you have the time you look into buying a translab shift kit and rebuilding your valve body.

If its your DD and you need to get it done in one day I would recommend that you get the 2 new plates that are sandwitched between both sides of the valve body since some of the holes get worned out and can't be fixed.(I had to stop there because the valve body had those holes worned out already)

Heres a link that explains how to intall the kit just in case you need further assistance:

Thanks for that man, I most likely will do that.

You running the shift kit now?, and if so does it shift hard or does it just take the lag out of the shifts?
