Tranny Issue.. 3rd gear grind

Hello. Here is a quick summary of my problem:

Unless perfectly rev-matched or shifted very slowly, 3rd gear will grind. Now, here is the interesting part, picture this:

The car is just running on idle, standing still. Clutch is not pushed in. If i try to force it in any gear except 3rd, it just won't go in, no grinds, no nothing. The shifter won't move into gear, just like it is supposed to. When I try the same in 3rd, just trying to force it in gear while the car is is standing still and without pushing in the clutch - it slips through a little and starts grinding! So all other gears I can not get into, but in 3rd gear, it almost goes in and starts to grind. All of this happens when the car is running, standing still and the clutch is not pushed in.

When I push in the clutch, shifter goes in any gear just fine with no grinds.

What could this be?

Actually, I was correct, I just reread it over again.

You should not be able to get it into any gears if the clutch is not pushed in, the syncro is preventing them. Now your third on the other hand, the syncro is too worn out and is allowing teeth contact and that is why you hear the grinding.

You need a new third syncro.

Also if you keep trying to put it into gear without the clutch pushed in, it does wear the syncros down, and soon the rest of the gears will be like third.

thats very good advise and ill add to it as well... a soltion to this would be go with a god tranny. I personaly had the same exact problem with first gear and i took the trany iin to be looked at.. syncro ended up bad... now i got online to dogbox sent it in to thenm got double syncro on first and second... the trany is running like a champ so just an idea and im sure you will love it

you could just try and change the tranny fluid(syncrmesh? cant spell sry). I had the same problem with mine in seccond. I drove the car for a year like that no problems other than the annoying sound.

Adding syncromesh will not cure the problem. Its a mechanical problem now. The syncro is too far worn down it physically cannot slow down third gear.

Adding anything to assist in syncro braking would only help if the transmission felt notchy, or not braking quick enough.

For example, if you were going into third gear and there was a very brief moment it didnt go in (no grinding), and then it went in.

No dont do that . You live in Saint Paul? I can replace that synco, actually all syncros at that. There only 20$ a piece.
