tranny fluid?

Please don't run straight Syncromesh. Put a quart of Redline Shockproof in there to help.... well prevent shock.

I only lost about 1-2 quarts( axle change) will it be alright to top off with synchromesh or should drain the pan and go from there?

You might as well drain it all. You're probably due for a change anyway.

If this is for an Automatic, buy the ATF+4 (Calls for ATF+3 but it's been superceded and I don't think you can even buy the +3 anymore). If they want to argue, it even says on the back of the bottle that it is compatible with Diamond +3.

For a 5-spd, use the suggestions above.

Use a synthetic like Amsoil and add eight ounces of Lubegard black.
