To spray or not to spray copper gasket stuff

Getting ready to put the oil filter housing back on the front case.
Should I spray the gasket with some of that copper stuff or not. It is just a paper gasket that came in a Fel-Pro kit. Just trying to make sure things go right on this N/T 1g.

No need. Assuming the surfaces are flat and undamaged the paper gasket is all that's required and there is little chance for picking up any dirt, fuzz, etc during the install.

Ok,thanks Steve.I just didn't want to look at it later with oil dripping between the two surfaces.

It does nothing, if layers of compressible material don't seal the head to the block, a thin film of copper spray is not going to help the situation.

I Typically only use silicon or gasket spray on a gasket surface that your dont want to move while youre installing it and the part.

So i guess it depends on your ocd level. But no you dont need to use any coating

On paper gaskets, not head gaskets, I use Permatex High Tack spray adhesive on them to hold them in place, plus it makes them easier to remove them later believe it or not.

I don't use it on the WHOLE gasket in my stuff. Just key areas and not too much. Usually it is as Steve pointed out, a machined surface so it shouldn't need it if all is good on the mating surfaces.
