OK our cars from the factory at

awd turbo auto were rated for

29mpg highway
20city

i get about 20 highway and 15 city

i have 98k. 0 boost leaks new upstream o2.. 20 is with no boost.just keeping it low rpms..

now my ? is after searching i see most people here average around 20mpg.. some get 28-30

i myself with high gas prices want to maximize my fuel efficiency..

so how do i do this? i want do know every way to get my 95 tsi awd auto to what it should be...

it 100% stock as of now..

and i don't floor it ever.. so don't say use less throttle.. i drive it like a grandma and get 20mpg  so i really wanna fix this problem..

i see its very common so i hope that we can all get in on this and fix it as a team.. thanks alot for all future comments!

Only thing I could suggest is to make sure the plugs and wires are in good condition, an exhaust would help you get better mpg. Ummm..... Oh, as far as highway miles go, most cars are designed with their peak mpg set around 55mph so try and stay close to that.

yo dude if you bought a DSM to get good gas your driving the wrong car. DSM's mean hopower not gas mileage. Get a hybrid honda I would recommend it highly.

Not true for the N/A's.. my RS gets 37 mpg on the highway and about 27-30 in the city.. depending on how many times I have to punch it through a toll booth.. :)

As far as easy MPG on a turbo? Make sure you've got good tire pressure, alignment, & balance. Remove extra weight you don't need to have in the car (friend of mine kept 175 lbs of scuba diving equipment in his trunk). Be up to date on regular maintenance stuff - plugs & wires, filters, fluids. Make sure no brake calipers are sticking. Be gentle.. keep the rpm's under 3500 & never go past 1/2 throttle. But what fun is that? :)

But he doesn't have an N/T
sooo, I would agree, remove weight, get everything aligned/balance. (drive like a ####y) *cough* errr

Just stay out of boost and you should be fine, although why own a DSM if you're never gonna boost it? I dunno

ttyl!

You drive a 3000 lb car that has a 15ish% driveline power efficiency loss. I don't know what you expect...

You might be able to get a few more mpg by making sure the car is running well and smooth, put fresh oil in the engine, trans, transfer case, and rear diff. Ah... get new plugs and wires, get a new fuel filter, get an alignment, make sure your tires are properly inflated, stop driving with the AC on, lose weight...

15% is what I got when I searched for dyno number correction. I have no idea where 30% came from.

An interesting number to yank out of mid-air. Maybe 12%, and even that sounds high.

For better mileage, slow down. A whole, whole lot and all the time. Either that, or just pay the freight.

Not always true. I have a FWD 5 speed Turbo and I got 37 MPG (best) but normally get around 27.

Like said above, check plugs and wires, and an exhaust might allow you to get better milage but the price of a new exhaust probably wouldn't justify buying one. clean your air filter or get a new one (K&N claims you get better milage, might wanna check into that) also make sure your tire pressure is were it's supposed to be. Finally, go on a diet, loose a few pounds around the waist... less weight = better milage :tease:

what if you go do those things and spend over $100, then you drive it and get the same gas mileage?
if you increase gas mileage by a couple mpg and drive 20,000 miles in a year, which is average, it will easily pay for itself. I thought it was a bad idea, but I just changed my mind. I'm going to change my lubes too
Good Idea :thumb:

I agree with keeping all the maintenance up to date, but for city driving, nothing ruins gas mileage like being in a hurry to a red light.

As soon as you see a stale green light, let off the throttle, don't try to make it just to slam on the brakes. Being at a stop is 0 mpg, so the less you are there the better, getting that fat a$$ moving (especially if you are driving an AWD) is rough on gas. So try to roll up to reds so they change to green before/by the time you get there, and keep the momentum going. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying cruise through at 30mph, that's how you get smoked by a red light runner. Just use your head.

Everytime I do this some asshole in a huge SUV swerves around me and speeds to the red light, then hits the brakes so hard I see the passengers necks snap. The light changes to green and I roll on by at 2500rpm, easily through the intersection while the SUV is peeling out on a mad hurry to the next red.

Additionally, in winter (approaching quickly) warming up your car for super long periods of time (like I used to when I had to park outside, start car, go eat breakfast, get dressed, check email...get in car 15 minutes later) will kill your MPG, dropped me 5mpg easily.

I've been getting 20mpg city on a pig rich fuel system (getting on the tuning shortly ;) )
...and I use the 18-20psi frequently enough to not forget the car still has a turbo. :thumb:

belive it or not my testpipe helped at higher rpms...but urs is turbo...dunno if u have a cat but check and see if its seen its days

Believe it or not a big ol turbo will get you good gas mileage. With my 60-1 I was getting 25-28mpg in town. This was at over 6000ft above sea level. On the highway I would see as much as 35 on long trips. This was a highly built 2.0L. Car was tuned rather well. Made near 400awhp on pump gas. Turbo lag made things around town. We put a GT-42 on my girlfriends car and you should see what she gets. Never has a chance to ge tit spooling unless she makes it.

1 if you don't have one, get a K&n air filter (or similar)
2.run Mobil 1 oil ( or any pure synthetic)
3.clean your fuel system
a. get the water out with isopropal (not methanol!)
b. add Techron cleaner
if your fuel system is really dirty there's
auto-rx
c. add a can of restore ( my experience is that it can restore compression )
4. check tire pressure
5. new sparkplugs & wires ( check that the coil tower connector is clean and bright)
6. new fluid in transmission and diff
7. wheel alignment
8. clean the TB
9. check if brakes are dragging
10. re-lube wheel bearings
11. get a credit card that pays 5 to 10 % back on gas pruchases

or buy a bus pass
;)

Slowing down in anticipation of the yellow. My grandmother would have loved you.

Keep a close eye on that mirror, and brace for impact.

Hey it's what they teach in school right? ;)

Can't say I really slow down for stale greens, but if I see a light that is 1/4-1/2 a mile away and has been green for a bit, I don't do 20 over to try and make it, just to have it change 2 seconds before I get there.

My GF asked yesterday if I think hybrids will be required by law at some point in our lives. I said when smoking is illegal, full gasoline vehicles will be illegal.

yo dude?

I seldom am on the highway but in city/suburban traffic, I do 20 mpg in a AWD car.
I like to quickly move up in rpm and then settle into a higer gear.
Check the mod list.

I agree with this. I only have an EVO3 and I noticed about 5mpg better vs the T25.
