1G Tire Question for Street/Strip guys (No drag radials!)

Hey guys, I've been reading a ton. I know there are threads out there, but tires that were good or recommended 6+ years ago are all discontinued for something else, and in general I like information to stay up to date.


Question for you fast guys that don't have drag radials or slicks on your cars but still cut good 60' times and enjoy drag racing: What tires are you running? What size, width, etc? Do you have a brand/model tire that you absolutely LOATHE? Do you have one that you'd bet your life savings on working?


Educate me please, and everyone else that might have this question too. I currently have 235/45 R17 Cooper RS3's on the car, and my simple FP Green setup just blows right through them when I launch on the street. I haven't tried lowering tire pressure or anything, but I'm curious what everyone else is running.

I can't really remember how wide mine are. I have 235's on there now and they are not stretched or bulging at all. So let's say they're only 8" wide wheel. And your General G Max's are taking the brunt of a 6266? Should be plenty for my baby green then!

I'm finally buying my first set of - Toyo Proxes RA1's These are practically a full race wet tire.

Oooh. You'll have to let me know how straight line/traction from a dig is! We have very similar setups as far as turbo goes(your suspension and everything else is lightyears beyond mine, but our turbos and SD setup are similar! Lol)

You can run up to 255's on those but you will need a slimmer sidwall number - and a fair amount of body work.
I'm running 8" wheels. A near perfect diameter match to the 215/55 R16 (stock GSX) is the 235/45R17.
I'm have run a 235/40 R17 - No body work needed. (maybe rear fender inside lip edge?)

Clarification: Are your tires the General GMAX RS? Or something else?
 
Yes the GMAX RS, and for the record they NEVER spun, (on asphalt) LOL with 701whp “corrected” LOL, Steven called them shit tires but for the price I’d say they’re not too bad LOL

And their a 225/45ZR/17


Damn! So 245/45's would be even less susceptible to spinning since they're wider?

I may honestly try this. As a bonus, I found out the wheels on the parts talon are apparently rare. 5Zigen Fighters. 18x8. Should I use those as the "street" wheels and keep my 17" wheels for the larger sidewall for the GMAX's, or does it really not matter?
