I have replaced all the pulls and bolted the new hydraulic tensioner on my talon, got the head back from the machine shop and installed, today I'm going to try to finish putting the car back together. Here's what I'm under the impression I'll have to do to time my engine, rotate the intake and exhaust cam gears until the line notches In the center of the gears both point up, then the outer notches on the gears should line up, with the crank rotated by hand so that the #1 piston is at TDC route the T-belt and once it's in place pull the grenade pin on the tensioner. Am I missing anything here? Please help! Thanks!

There are a few more steps involved, yes. Follow this detailed, step-by-step, how to: Timing Belt VFAQ

Not to jack this thread, but I just read that link you posted. I've done timing belts on DSMs 3 or 4 times, and every one has turned out great, so apparently I'm not a total clod. My question is what is that auto tensioner really for? Is it just a backup or something? When I go to tighten the timing belt, I'll just swivel the tensioner pulley around until the belt is where I want it, then tighten the tensioner pulley down so it can't move. Then I'll release the auto tensioner and let the pin slide up to push on the tensioner arm. The auto tensioner seems redundant since I just tightened the tensioner pulley to where it can't move and loosen the belt....

With the dowel pins pointing up you use the INNER marks to align the cams.
Use a straight edge to check that an extended line between the two inner marks extends across the center of the cam gear bolts (bolt heads). Ignore the alignment of the outer marks.
