What timing belt kit would be best for track and street use? not sure when the last time it was changed by the previous owner and would just like to do it anyways.

Also how can I tell if I possibly have ARP head studs without taking it apart?

Any help would be great!

use OEM for a belt
The only way to tell if you have ARP is to pull valve cover. If the head bolts have a hex head in the middle and looks like nuts on a stud they are most likely ARP. Stock are bolts.

For a timing belt kit, you cannot go wrong with OEM for the whole job.

If you want to save a little money, here is a suggestion.

  • I like the OEM belt or Gate's Racing belt. Gate's also has a kit that come with the balance shaft belt if you need it.(extreme, JNZ, Rockauto)
  • I have had zero issues using Dayco pulley kits (Roackauto) on a car that does Rally cross, Autocross, and open track days.
  • OEM tensioner pulleys for the timing and balance shaft belts.(extreme, JNZ)
  • OEM belt tensioner(extreme, JNZ)
  • GMB water pump since you are there already.(Rockauto)
  • You may as well check all of the oil seals while you are there. (oil pump, cams, front crank)(extreme, JNZ)
  • Also check the condition of you harmonic balancer.
To check if you have ARP head studs, you will need to remove the valve cover. You should see 12pt nuts on studs.

You should be able to see 1 or 2 of the head stud locations just by looking into the oil cap with a light of some sort.

I agree with the Oem and gates belts. The Arp's are a 14mm 12 point bolt if you have them.

Like everyone is saying both the Gates Racing and OEM are a quality choice. If you're interested in either shoot me a PM and I'll get you best pricing on them. I do have an over-stock of the gates racing belts I'm looking to off-load so I can probably do well on pricing for that.

I ran a Contitech timing belt once, and had no problems. Others have had the same results. The one I ran actually had an OEM part number printed on it. I think the OEM EVO 9 timing belt is kevlar reinforced, but don't quote me on that.
