Timing and idle setting question?

There is a little black cap that goes over the connecter in the engine bay you ground. If you loose the cap will it mess something up? How significant is the cap?

If you have not ever set your timing than you would not or your idle. Next to the battery negative side. the is a black plug with a cap on it that needs grounded in order to set base timing. I need to know if i lost that cap will it matter. Does it need to go back on? Thanks for you help maybe this will clarify it.

You can use electrical tape to cover it and tuck it away or go to a junk yard and find another cap.

I am trying to find out if its just a dust cover or does it actually do something?

it really does not do anything an i apologize i didnt realyize what you were talking about right away but no its not important.. like the other guy said black tape or a junkyard... im pretty sure they are eaasy to replace or even leave... just tape it up
