Hey guys, I wanted to confirm my timing on my 2gb to match sure I understand this right.
first I positioned the crank at TDC and the marks on the cam gears matched, next I used dsmlink to ground the timing connector, in dsmlink my timing showed 5.0, and when I used the timing light physically it showed about 2-3 btdc. Being that dsmlink and the actual engine timing don’t match do I need to move all the timing sliders up a couple degrees so dsmlink match's the engine?

Thanks for the help

Vern

Ignition timing and mechanical timing are two different things, there is no need to get the crank and cam marks lined up. Start the engine, ground the timing pin with DSMLink, and then use the timing light. If the timing is off, rotate the crank angle sensor until your at 5* BTDC. The timing marks on the plastic case is also best read from the wheel well rather than from up top through the engine bay. If the timing light is still off, I would just trust Link when its says your at 5* BTDC.

on the 2gb's the crank angle sensor is non adjustable. I never thought to look throught the fender well, i give that a shot and see what the number is, i know the number changes depending on what angle your looking at the marks.

Sorry, I meant Cam angle sensor. :ohdamn: That's the way to adjust timing.

Sorry for old thread but I had a timing question too.
After I got my car all put back together and running I was logging with link trying to get some stuff straightened out and for timing when the car is off it said i was 5* but when I start the car and it runs it bounces between 6* and 8*.
