why when i try to set base timing is my timing mark moving back and forth. i thought it would be in one place. i am grounding the connector by the battery and have my logger hooked up so the pin there should be grounded. car is warm and timing light is hooked to #1 plug wire.

Then your putting the ECU into the mode to set the BISS not the set timing mode. The datalogger must be disconnected so that the mode pin on the DLC isn't grounded.

ok, timing is set at 5 degrees btdc, logger shows isc changes with throttle, idle is about 735-785. everything seems normal but my biss has to be all the way in. changed biss o ring also. do you think there is still an air leak. now all useless vac lines are removed and caped, cruse control does work, i cant think of any thing else you have mentioned right now. i am glad it seems to run right but i know something has to be off and it is bugging me. at this point i quess a boost leak test is in order although it boost quite well. i have my avcr set to about 14-15 psi and it seem to stay right there. i guess do you or anyone recomend mechanic close to the coast of north carolina? probably not but i thought it worth a shot. any way thanks a lot steve. i appreciate all of your help.

There really isn't any direct feedback on the ISC. The only feedback is the engine RPMs.
What are your ISC steps once the car has reached operating temp at idle?

Like Jay points out you can have some pretty big leaks and still maintain 14 psi by overworking the turbo so you can't go by that. You have to pressure test the intake.
