Everytime i work on my GST i fall more and more in love with it, right now im bring ti back to life due to a real a**hole who pretty much killed it...i know i know, why would i buy a car that was treated like dirt, esp a turbo...but i found the car, and fell in love with it, working on it and driving it, im just now starting to get into the real DSM world...so i come to you guys for advice...

I'm not low on cash, but i cant afford to exactly break the bank with my new found love, id like to have a 300whp GST, keep in mind i like doing work myself and learning new things...

What should i buy for my mainly stock GST to get it around 300whp? What parts should i have a professional install, and any other advice you can throw at me is greatly appreciated.

thankx guys

Sure sure. I would shut my car off right away when my BIG 16G or whatever big expensive turbo I have after driving it hard and seeing the turbo RED HOT! Yeah, the red aluminum is normal and wont DAMAGE any seals or anything related to COKING the turbo. So, yeah its all normal and won't damage anything.

Brosef, think of it this way, you're not going to run 10 miles and hit the sack right away. You need to COOL OFF, the same way in engines! :beatentodeath:

He didn't say just to drive and then turn the car off right away. He said to let it idle after you get wherever.

So, everywhere you go you get your turbo red? Let me guess, you live your life a quarter mile at a time? :D

But seriously, most people can afford to let their car chill for a minute before shutting it off, or even when you're getting to the place you're going-don't feel the need to hit 20psi pulling into your parking spot. If you're buildling on a budget, a TT isn't that important. Some extra cash... I dunno, I could still find better uses for the money.

But again... if you're one of these idiots who has to rev the crap out of their engine every time they park their car, yeah, get a turbo timer. Then it can be one more mod you can brag about to your friends. :beatentodeath:

I don't think a timer is necessary either. Be easy on the car for the last mile or so of driving, that's all. Plus coking shouldn't happen on synthetic oil, especially with coolant going through it.

GoFast, many of the suggested upgrades are needed. Just be sure to plan them all. For example, don't buy stuff that won't work with the next upgraded part. Take your time with every mod making sure to search how to do it first so it's done right. Stuff that some newbies might not think of like porting a manifold when doing other upgrades like the turbo and exhaust, what kind of sealants to use on specific parts, torque specs etc. If you take your time with even the smallest of modifications it will likely turn out much better and more reliable.

after reading all thi si think a TT is not on the cards yet, done the road after i upgrade the turbo yeah ill get one, i really dont treat my car like sh*t, it is my pride and joy, so at this time i will put a TT on my to do list for the future...

i really appreciate all this guys, thank you...

Think most of the recommended upgrades have been covered in this thread & if you do abit of searching you will see there are a tonn of other threads with your kind of goals in mind, so that would be good reading as well. Is 300 whp your ultimate goal or like most of us will those goals change? Nothings worse then buying an item that suits your current goal & then in a couple years time having to by the same thing again in a "larger" version.

300 whp on a T25 isn't going to happen no matter how well you tune it, the tiny turbo isn't physically able to produce the kind of airflow required to produce 300 whp. 300 whp is a very attainable goal on a descently tuned fwd setup with the standard bolt on mods, stock cams & around 20 psi boost. If your looking to max the evoIII out on pump figure around the 350 whp mark. Sure some have made more but not always on pump, better tuning methods, etc, etc. To compare what the evoIII is capable of, a local aropund here has run his 1g awd to an 11.7 @ 120 mph, with your standard bolt on mods, stock 1g motor with cams. This is running meth injection & pump gas with boost set around 30 & probably falling somewhere around the 25-26 psi range (evoIII not able to keep up with the airflow demands at these high boost levels)

As for the turbo timer, I think it was $100 well spent in my case. It's so nice to be able to hop out of the car right away, instead of waiting, even if it is only 30 seconds. Plus my HKS Type 1 has a shift light built in, which comes in handy.

A turbo timer is ONLY a convinence part. You DO need to cool the car down weather or not it's sitting it for 3 min. or letting a turbo timer do it for you. I used to turbo time my car for 1 min if I go less then 5 miles without boosting or 3 minutes if I went more the 5 miles or boosted the car at any point.

People who say otherwise are the ones who sell thier car because something went wrong with it. This reminds me of a kid who said DSMs are unreliable peices of crap because the engine seized, but couldn't remember the last time (if ever) he performed an oil change on the car. I only say him every couple months, but I know he owned the car for 2 years. Shame to, it was a 92 Talon 6/4 combo.

You said "aropund." You must have been typing while I was typing.

As for the cost. $100 was almost 3 times what I paid for mine. Search ebay.

Used Greddy 2nd Gen TT $31.00
New 2g Harness $13.00

How about you get over this thread (and screw your head on straight after it got slapped around a bit) before you start asking about upgrading this and upgrading that. :p

In all seriousness, you need to start reading (and keep on reading) before starting threads and asking questions that have been answered 5749864332100274518 times before. Read through the VFAQ, read through this site, read through this site, read this, read through this, and read through some of our Tech Guide articles on this site (as well as the very first two links that were given to you in post #2). READ, READ, READ and READ!

Oh yeah, and this wonderful tool is also really great. Please utilize it to its full capacity.

I'm drunk and didnt read through the whole thrad but I would reccomed the new 18g from fp, that, and fp2's, a safc, 650's or 550 fuel inectors and a safc should more than put you over 300. You would also need a 3" turbo back and intake etc but that is common for more than 200+ whp. Good luck and have fun you'll love dsms :D
