throw out bearings oem or aftermaket

hey guys , i just bought a comp stage 5 clutch for my 2g project . so my question is i have a brand new oem mitsu throwout bearing and i have the brand new one that came with the comp clutch. i know some people have had issues with aftermaket tob . should i use the oem or comp throw out bearing ? any advice would be great !

OEM or pull your tranny again in 1k miles.

If you have a new OEM, I would suggest using it. It is usually better built that the aftermarket ones I've seen so far. I will admit though, I am currently using a tob from an aftermarket company that does not have the greatest reputation on here and it has handled several thousand miles of abuse without any problems. I don't expect it to last any longer than the clutch though. The OEM tob that was in the car before had a 100k on it and still looks to be in decent condition, so I kept it, just in case. It definitely is sealed stronger than the aftermarket bearings.

I used OEM TOB when I did my ACT 2100. Got 30k out of it before I sproinged a spring. It was ok because after I got a tune on the Big T28 I was exceeding the limits of the 2100 anyway.
I used the other than OEM TOB that came with my ACT 2600. It seemed like a decent TOB. Funny thing is; it's made by the same company in Japan. Has many of the same markings on it. The bearings itself are identical. The bearing is not the problem. It's the body of the TOB the bearing itself is set in. On the other than OEM TOB there's more plastic and the tabs that keep the bearing centered are plastic. On the OEM TOB they are metal and wrap around the edge of the TOB assembly. You can throw the other than OEM TOB off center as easily as dropping it on the ground. As soon as it goes off center it allows the TOB to slip and fall off the fingers of the diaphragm of the pressure plate. My other than OEM TOB broke the absolute first time I started up my Talon and backed it off the lift after finishing the clutch swap. I was able to actually drive the car afterwards. It was loud which got dismissed because I was using a unsprung 4 puck. And that was supposedly supposed to transmit more transmission noise. Bah. Bullshit. It was making noise because a couple of fingers of the pressure plate diaphragm had already fallen of the body of the TOB itself and we're slicing there way thru the tips of them. It catastrophically failed at less than 100 miles.
I only use OEM now. There have been some other people that have said their other than OEM bearings weren't adequately greased. Mine seemed fine.
Sorry for the long reply. This is something I feel strongly about.
ACT did in fact warranty my clutch. It was "their" TOB included in their ACT 2600 kit. Truth of the matter is; ACT manufacturers clutches. They do not manufacture TOBs. ACT kinda got a bad rap for making crappy TOBs. It's misinformation. It's just a "complimentary" TOB. I got my warrantied clutch back from ACT brand new. They even replaced my unsprung 4 puck. They even included a new other than OEM TOB with it. I examined it at length. Concluded it was absolutely identical to the other than OEM that failed on me. Threw it in the trash and used an OEM TOB and haven't had a problem.

Also if you look at the construction of the other than OEM TOBs they use 2 small plastic tabs on the corners to keep the bearing centered. The bearing needs to float a little bit to make sure it doesn't bind up etc but only a little. The OEM TOB uses 4 metal tabs on each corner to keep the TOB centered.

Better than nothing. Some folks have traveled even less miles on the new set up and they deny the claim being something along the lines of aggressive in nature and not intended product use and what not.

Anyhow, OEB TOB FTW. (second time posting that today)
