Well I just bought a 2003 Evo VIII About 6 months ago and i love the car. In fact its one of my top 10 dream cars, but I have to say for the $15,000 i spent i would think i would get alil more then what i got. Ive put about $2,500 in the car already but Im thinking i would have got a better bang for my buck if i would have got a 2G GSX. I have owned a 95 GST before i bought my Evo and i loved the car as well and i would think a GSX would feel just about the same as the GST did all but the fact that its all wheel drive. I just dont see what all the big fuss is about with the Evo. I mean yea they look great and drive nice and every where i go someone always stopes and talks to me about it, but i mean for real, i dont like the wing one the back, i thought i would like the 4 door idea but i dont have a family so whats the point. The seats are not the best, i like the way the elcipse seats feel over the recaro racing seats in the evo. The insurance is crazy $$$. All in all im thinking about selling it and going back with the DSMs. What are your thoughts about the matter? Im open to all good or bad feedback on the matter. Thanks guys...:thumb:

Man that's a nice Evo! I've always wanted one, but they are expensive, and it seems like mods are a little spendy in some areas too. I love my GST but I plan on getting a wicked white evo someday. And yea im sure insurance on one of those is a killer. :hmm: I'd keep the evo, but thats just me, GSX would be nice too

Thanks guys, I love the car. I just think I could get the same out of a 2g GSX for 1/4th the price of what iam spending on the Evo. Im still going to school and she is my DD. I hate to let her go but at least i can say that i have owned one. I know that the 2Gs are getting old and it will need to be worked on more then the Evo will, but i love working on cars. IMHO the Evo does not feel that much faster then my GST did. I had close to the same mods on the GST ( Greddy full 3inch exhaust, BOV, HKS intake and MBC ) as i do on the Evo. Im pushing around 300 AWHP as of right now ( Untuned ) and i feel like i can get the same from the GSX but not spend $20,000 on doing it LOL. I make good money so thats why i bought the Evo but i dont see spending more money on something that i can go get the same amount of fun and power on for 1/4th the price. I guess i just paid for the name? LOL

To me it would all depend on my overall goals for the vehicle. Is this something you plan on keeping for an extended period of time, or is this your only vehicle ie. DD?

If you plan on auto-x or road racing, I would stick with the EVO, as its an easier car to click off faster times, meaning it takes a better driver to mark the same times in an GSX vs an EVO.

If it were me, I'd DD the EVO keeping it in its current form as far as mods go, and pick up a cheap GSX and mod the shit out of it!

However on the other end of the spectrum, think about what kind of GSX you would have if you bought it for ~$2k and spent the remaining ~$13k on mods :sneaky:

You paid for the Name, the AYC and the ACD ;)

Honestly if I had the money I'd say F##k my dsm. They are a horible idea for a DD from what I've experenced with mine and my friends. Like, One of my friends has a sound 95 gst all modded correctly and I sware something breaks once a week and most days it seems he has to fix it just so he can drive it to work. I love my dsm but from my stand point its not worth the frustration from it not being reliable. Mabe it has something to do with the fact I'm a machanic for a living That I hate working on my own car, but now that I hardly ever drive my dsm because I got smart and bought a reliable car It feels good to be able to get in it and go anywhere without having to fix it before hand or worry about it breaking.

I would leave the evo stock or just not put any money into and keep it has a dd and build a gsx. My buddy just spent 9g on parts, labor, and dyno it only dynoed 320whp with that much money you got get a fully built gsx no joke

Evos inthe states only have active yaw control in the evo X, it stopped with the Vii and here they only got the ACD

I'd go with a 2g GSX or better yet, a 2gb Talon. But I'm not too fond of the way the EVO8 & 9 look. But if you go with a GSX for a DD, just make sure you do maintenance. Chances are things will break a bit more often but the car is going to be at least 11 years old. But with that said, I love my 99 GSX being my DD and I'm coming up to 217K and I put at least 80 miles a day on it. It's all in how you take care of it.

Id keep the evo hands down. Especially for a dd. Newer car, newer tech, more reliable. The 8 is the best looking of all the evo's in my opinion. As far as modding goes the evo aftermarket will continue to grow unlike the dsm market.

ill trade you right now. i was thinking of selling my white 95 2gb gsx and getting a white evo 8 (28k miles) for 17k.

Definitely keep the Evo... Like someone else stated above, the fact its newer, a little more reliable for a daily driver and still fills that sport/race feel you need should be convincing enough. Sure it might be a little more expensive but in the long run you will see where your pennys went. You will hate you traded it for a older car the first time the GSX breaks down, squeeks, leaks, or any of the many other things our older DSM's do. The Evo is newer and drivability is by far better than 2g's in my opinion as a daily driver.

I agree with everyone to then get a GSX for cheaper and play with it all you want. They make great project cars and you really appreciate them once they start making you nice power.

Also has a lot to do with budget, if your pulling tight every month on payments or whatever, well then switching to a older more inexpennsive car would be more practical then.

I own both. You won't get your bang for the buck out of the eclipse relative to the evo. The evo is just an all around better platform, and comes with a lot of design/engineering and features you can't just add to the gsx.

Another big reason to go with the Evo is that parts are disappearing for the Eclipse. You still got more time with fresh OEM parts with the Evos.

I only keep my eclipse because I put so many years of blood, sweat, and $$$$ into it, and it's paid off. If push came to shove though I'd get rid of it and keep just the evo, even if I had to keep it in stock form. If I had both stock from the get go I would have only modified the Evo.

Don't get rid of the Evo. They have more and better parts. Plus they are easier to work with all around because most of the real tuners have switched from DSMs to Evos. There are still a few but they are hard to come by.

Parts for DSMs are already getting harder and harder to find. There were parts I wanted last year for my 1g that aren't for sell anymore at all.

The Evo's aerodynamics are also way better for whatever else you may want to do besides street pulls and strip.

In the long run I'd say the Evo will be cheaper to tune to a higher HP goal IF you correctly plan your upgrade path.

Yeah, you could probably get a bad ass 2g but think of all of the problems it has coming up just because of it's age. Unless you are going to get a 99 GSX or something I'd say you'd be foolish to even get one when you already have a Evo. If anything I'd get a second car since 1g and 2g DSMs are cheap as hell.

Just remember, all the dumb people will have crashed the EVO's in the next five years or so and you will be lucky to have one of the few remaining (hopefully clean and well taken care of) left. I would happily kill for a 2gb panda talon with like 30k unmolested miles on it... (jk) but seriously think about it. How many unmolested 2g's and 1g's are left out there? The EVO will follow suit shortly. IMHO hold on the the evo, hunt for a good deal on a 2g and snag a project :).

As far as seats go. Get different ones! The Recaro seats that you have in there right now will sell fast. I'm waiting on someone to pull their evo 9 seats.
The evo is a nice car. You would be unhappy if you sold it.

You never know what you have untill it's gone.

Keep the evo, you won't regret it. With all the small things wrong with these old 2g's (cheap interior pieces, door moldings, suspension components failing, and CW) you'd kick yourself in the ass for a trade like that. I'd STOP modding the evo, START saving for a GSX that is not running, tear it down, restore & build it, and have yourself a sick weekend warrior. I'd kill for a new daily driver, every time I go to work I have the feeling somethings gonna leave me stranded....not fun.

edit: ps I LOVE the stock evo wing.

Just keep the EVO and look for a cheap 2g.
