These cars come apart really easily

I've been cleaning, tightening, and lubing various parts of the car and I came to realize that this car is really a cinch to work on. I'm used to no clearance anywhere and specialty tools to remove this or that. I can't believe how easy it was to take apart the doors, remove the rear seat, and other interior components. The engine bay is not too terrible either. I can put hands where they need to be and eveything. The hardest thing I've had to tackle would have to be the front CV axle on the passenger side. It was a little tough, but not as bad as removing a tranny or doing an oil change on a Mark VIII (Trust me, sounds stupid but horrible engineering). Suspension looks a bit challenging and is hindering me from wanting to put on my coilover kit I have, but who knows.

I had a Lincoln Mark VIII and Dodge Stealth Twinturbo before this car and they were nightmares to work on. I applaud this car for being such a pushover to pull apart and put back together.

Well as time goes on cars will become simplier and simplier to disasseble and reassemble. Why? because car companies are offering longer and longer bumper-to-bumper and drivetrain warranties. The companies want to draw in customers but at the same time not take a hit on warranty work. The only way to do this is to make it so that they can service cars quicker which costs the company a lot less money. Anything that they can do to save the mechanics time they will do because, for at least the warranty period, they will be paying the mechanics for their time.

You will see, as you do your own work, what a pain the cars can really be. I mean changing belts for instance does become frustrating because the clearances are tight. Changing the timing belt will get on your nerves because you have to keep lifting the engine up and down and up and down to set the pulleys and so on. The tranny can be a bit of a hassel, at least it was on my car. Routing any kind of custom IC piping through the engine bay can become a bit hairy at times. Running any sort of wire through the firewall can be a bit of an experience. Anyways good luck with your car! :thumb:

Actually car companies are making things hard to pull apart so joe snuffy mechanic cant work on it, and has to take it to the dealership.

Although soon everything will be quick disconnect plug and play. You wont be able to work on anything, but it would take just a few minutes to change anything on the car, including body panels.

I thought my eclipse was harder to work on then any other car I've owned. Especially in the engine compartment. But your right the interior was pretty easy.

i had to tear down my motor on my SHO and that was not fun at all, pulling the trans 3 times was one of the hardest transmissions ive had to do..theres no clearance at all.. i love working on my dsm becasue its relatively simple :)
