Looks pretty clean and near stock which is very good. Most likely it wasn't molested with mods and a heavy footed driver.

What dosent look stock from the pics. Everything looks like the day it rolled out the factory other then the usual tune up items. Could you tell me what you see that i dont? To me it looks like a semi clean engine bay.

Well like road runner said do the usual. Bring a compression tester with you. Also listen for ticking or any engine noise that dosent sound normal. Ask if its a 6 or 7 bolt engine. PAPER WORK. If they say all this be like prove it.

Most engine's that are going to crankwalk usually let go around the mileage on the body so thats probly why its a new motor.

From what I understood from the seller (and I will clear this up next time I talk to him), the previous owner replaced/rebuilt the engine because of crankwalk but did something wrong. The car blew up shortly after the new owner bought it so he bought a stock 7-bolt engine off of ebay and his cousin's friend put the engine in. They decided to rebuild/replace the transmission and put a new stock clutch in when they replaced the engine.
The car is located in Maryland. I do plan on doing a compression test and having a mechanic look at it. Since the car is 2 hours away from me I can't have my mechanic look at it so does anyone know of a trustworthy mechanic near Crofton, MD?

I found a 97 talon tsi awd someone is selling but he doesnt know a fair price to sell it at. i need an idea of a price to help him out, but there are some problems. Its engine is blown (not sure what is wrong, low compression in a cylinder, and a head problem), a football sized rust hole by the rear right wheel, a huge dent, like the size 3 footballs on the front quarter panel right by the left front wheel and it is also very rusty there too. Also it has an automatic tranny. give me some prices on what i should expect to pay from this guy.

Give him as litle as you can buy a new 6 or 7 bolt(or rebuild). Hit up local junkyards or classifieds for the body pieces. I wouldt give him more than a grand for that.

i bought my 98 awd 1 year ago..when i worked at a dealership.. trade in price then was about 2300 and i bought it for about 3700. As equipped my car had all options, 89k and totally stock..so by now trade in price fora 97 shoudl be around 1500 but if its modded dunno..id say offer about 800 or so since the guy doesnt sound like he knows.

3k for what he just described? I was thinkin at most a grand.

everyones really being generous. the way your describing the car the guy should be paying you to take it off his hands

On the topic of classifieds, it would be very nice to be able to comment on the listing... It would be somewhat helpful, that way when people have a question, the seller isn't getting asked the question numerous times... Just me 2 cents($6 canadian...)...

The car is red with a black cap Mint condition owned by a ASE cert. mech. He is the original owner and purchased it with every option under the sun at the time. It has the gray leather interior. It has never been driven in the winter and always been garage keep. One hundred percent original unmodded, Everything works. Had custom floor matts made for it. Comes with car cover. He did have a afermarket alarm put in, he said it was a good one? The tires are the originals Goodyear GT+4's and still like new. Has just under 10,000 miles, and is a 5 speed He is ready to sell it after all these years and still loves the car, but he said it is time to down size. Another part to the question is if I did buy this car would it be worth my while to keep it stock and baby it since their are not to many GSX's in this condition and stock that I know of. Please let me know. Thanks

i was looking in the paper today and i saw a 2000 suburu impreza i believe 2.5rs for 5500 with 75000 miles. now my question is, with all that im dealing with in my eclipse http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=253199 should i sell my eclipse for the suburu or keep the eclipse?

5 speed suburu impreza
AWD
165 horses i believe

5 speed eclipse
front wheel drive
140 horse but a hell of an eye catcher

NOT SURE WHAT TO DECIDE AND I KNOW IM IN THE WRONG AREA BUT IM NOT SURE. and i know im being a pain in the ass about my car problems to you guys:beatentodeath:

I know this guy who has a 1G awd and will sell it to me for 700. But it has been sitting out and the battery was connected backwards. What all would i have to do since the battery was hooked up wrong? or is it worth it?

put the battery in the right way and see what happens. could been a dead battery and nothing happened to it. if the car starts up, buy it. check the compression too

Well i didnt have much time to look at it because i was working but the guy was cutting and re-wiring some of the wires on the engine so im guessing it burned something up.

If it doesnt start up check for popped fuses, melted wiring in the harness, and open the ecu and take a peek in there.

Alright i found a Black 91 AWD 5 Speed DSM that some guy has and is willing to sell it to me.

He Did all the Brakes/Rotors, It has a New Head/timing belt.

i am guessing because it broke the old one.
The paint isnt in very good condition...

This guy is a good mechanic and has a great rep. Its sitting in the back of his shop.

The 14B is shot and he has the Manifold and Turbo Off of it, he has yet to get a new one or get the old one rebuilt.

He said thats all it needs, Now i wanted to offer him like $500 for it out the door,
I am probally gonna stop by and talk to him a little more about the car and then make the offer then Buy a 14B off e-bay and put it on myself.

what do you guys think??

Should i ask him to do things like check the compresson? have him start it? ect....

If you can get the car for $500 and all it needs is a turbo then go for it. Like you said the guy has a good reputation as a mechanic, but still get him to do a compression check and go over and inspect the car for anything you can think of that might be wrong while you are there.
