10k is a lot for a 15 yr car. I would say buy a car with no engine for 500 or one that works for 2.5-4k. And then spend about 2k on a new engine and upgrades. No car even owned by a mechanic is worth that much. Being a mech means nothing except that WHEN it breaks they are able to fix it and they will use the right equipment. I would go see how much a new rebuild cost around your area and work from there. Hell I have my built engine for about the 3k both top and bottom with parts.

I would say keep looking and good luck. Hopefully you are a new addition to our family.

I agree with the guys saying its not worth that much but think about it.... They will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER make these cars again. Ever!

You can't take back time. Thats the ONE thing on this entire planet that someone CANNOT buy. EVERERER!! Ever. I dunno, it worth a little bit more than a USUAL rebuilt car. Thats why muscle cars with ORIGINAL miles are so expensive and rare.

My dad just bought a 65 Impala SS with 48,000 ORIGINAL miles for cheap. It's a true SS car, 327ci and the paint is flawless. Its amazing how GOOD of shape it's in. Its like riding in a brand new Impala right off the assembly line in 65.

I dunno its worth it to me but dont get me wrong i'm all go, no show. I DO like the factory look though, I try and keep all my cars as factory as possible while making the MOST power possible. I like the stock look. I'm a sleeper kinda guy.

Heres the car:

But then again that would require him to buy it and not really drive it or to modify it or to really do anything with it. It would be nice if he made it a museum piece but I am pretty sure 99/100 people on this site has/had modified their cars. Defiant is the exception so he is that 1 person. But I for 1 do not have the will power.

Well as everyone has said, the car value really comes down to what you are willing to pay. I am not, so it is worth 3k for me. But hell it is worth 10k to the other guy and maybe to you? But I stand by my thoughts. I would look for another car but that is just me. AND that plus the fact DSMs aren't that rare, if I was looking for a rare car I would probably buy a MR2 Turbo, Celica Alltrac or a RX7. Like a RX7 stock with original engine <-- NOW THAT IS HARD TO FIND. Good luck.

It is well worth the 10k...if you can afford it. Don't be biased by the cheapness of the average DSMer. The thing is, you're buying it because of it's mintness...are you willing to drive this car on a regular basis? It'd be more of a weekend toy if I had that in my stable.

Honestly I wouldn't get for the same reasons above. Just buy a decent 1g for a couple grand. put some money and work in it and then take the rest and take your wife to europe for a month. Then if she ever gives you crap about having a 400whp 1g daily driver you can just say man europe sure was nice.

It's really quite simple. The car is either too old, or too new, to buy for $10k.

Tell that guy that it's a beautiful car and if he wants to sell it now, then come down on the price, but if he's really that attached to it, then hang on to it for a while longer until they become more and more rare, then it might be worth $10k.

You are in Chicago right???
Well, you better hurry up and buy it. If you don't let me know, I will. LOL
I don't care about actual worth, and if you got the money do it. Less than 10K miles? You better buy it before I do. LOL
I bought my 97 GSX for the same reason. I couldn't find anything like that with only 26K on it. I really want a 1G now, so geeze, be careful letting everyone know about it, you might just lose it to a better offer. LOL J/K ;)
Good Luck and Happy Hunting!!!

I Paid $1500 For An Unmodded 97 Gst With A Little Less Than 100k Miles. $10k Is Way Too Much No Matter What. Someone Like Barret Jackson May Give Them $10k For It. That Is A $7500 Car All Day Long At Least For The Average Dsm Seeker. Good Luck With Your Decesion

The majority say na. The replies are great and giving me the ability to think more rational about the car and not get so emotionally caught up in it. Like I said once I saw it I could not stop thinking about

If it is as good as it looks I would offer 7500 and take it or leave it. Yeah, that may be a lot for an old car, but it's basically brand new. It would probably need some minimal maintenance like replacing hoses and maybe the belts and fuel filter. I think it's a good alternative to buying a new Hyundai for the same price.

It's probably worth it to a car collector. Are you a car collector? If you can't keep it mint, you'll just hurt yourself in the end.

Thanks for the replies they are great. They are giving me the ability to think about the car rationally, and not to get emotionally caught up with it. Like I said once I saw it I could not get it out of my mind. I work with the owners wife and a friend or somebody they know already offered $6000 for it two weeks ago,and he said he did not have more for it. I personally think it is worth $7500 - $9000. Trust me I am not made of money I have a wife and two young kids, and live in Chi town. A DSM er at work got me interested in DSM's. I could not believe the power comming out of his 97 GSX full mod car. At this stage in my life I would love to have a 10-11 sec car, but the money to run it and maintain it would be too much. This car would be my second car my other car is a 2001 Pathfinder with 6 or 7 payments left. I have a garage to keep it in and would drive it occasionally. The wife seems like she would give me the OK if I could scrape up the money. I'll keep you posted.

perfect condition or not, NADA's high value is $3625. It may be worth what hes asking to you, but I could never over pay by that much for a common car like an eclipse. Like said before, you could buy a decent shell, do any body work to get it to that stage and mod the shit out of it for 10K. Thats just my .02. It is your money and who are any of us to tell you how to spend it. Good Luck

Hey guys, my little bro is interested in this car (if he gets it there will be 3 of us w/ 2g's in the fam): 95 GST black on grey int (cloth), 150K (timing belt/ h20 pump done 10K ago), probably needs 2 new tires, definitely needs radio wiring harness/new radio (plug was supposedly cut off) otherwise its supposed to run good, etc - Oh almost forgot there's a long but not too deep scratch on the hood. So anyway if it runs good how much would you all say it is worth? He's askin 3500 and KBB says it's worth between 2700-3500 private party; (I was thinking of telling my bro to offer between 2800-3K in cash) Thanks a bunch in advance fellas, you all are always very helpful on here.

Oh one more thing guys, how many more miles do u think a 4g63 w/ this many is good for? Oh and I also forgot to add that the car is a 5spd (any other pointers for checking for crankwalk other that popin the clutch after a hard left?)

thanks again

J

That looks exactly like the GST I just picked up last winter for about 7k. Granted, mine had about 77k on it though.

I think you're right on with the cash offer. A lot of people will come down if it's cash, and that wouldn't be a bad offer either.

A general rule of thumb about crankwalk though, is if you haven't had it by around 70-80k, you're pretty safe. Doesn't mean it CAN'T happen, but I think you should be in the clear. I've also known a guy to have his DSM run over 200k. That was with a very well maintained car though.
