Id say no :( thats way too much. I got mine for 11gs and that was 2 yrs ago w like 70 miles on it..
and mine is a 1999.
...Plus those subs...Im sorry to anyone who has r.fosgates...but they're not all that. He Musta spent like 7 bills tops on that system w capacitors....car looks clean tho. Id test drive it first and check the engine bay too. Good luck. BUT NO.

I'd be cautious about that car man. I bought my 96 tsi awd with 107 miles, and when I bought it about a year ago it looked to be in perfect condition. I paid 5k for it and have probably put another 3500 into parts and stuff randonly going wrong (about 700 of that is because I hit a raccoon at about 75mph...) So if you're taking out a loan for it consider that down the line stuff will happen without warning, and dropping 500 bucks to fix something ontop of a loan payment is a huge downer. Look the car over thoroughly and if you even for the slightest reason feel uneasy about it or the guy selling it, I'd walk away. good luck man.

I would be worried about the lies he is telling you. I've never heard of the wrong BOV blowing up a motor. It probably crankwalked and he had it fixed.

When I bought my talon, the previous owner wanted to vent the BOV and didnt know to plug the spot in the intake pipe. So it ran very lean while driving and rich while shifting. Multiply that over 110K miles and that might cause some problems. An aftermarked BOV valve is a good sign that the person likes to "hot-rod" it around.

IMO, Don't buy it. you can find a better deal and if you really like the eclipse body style, get a talon and convert it to eclipse like im doing. Talons are usually cheaper.

I've tried searching for Talons but those are even harder to find than Eclipses.

I'm not in a hurry anyway, I have pretty much until summer hopefully by then I'll find something decent. I wish I had moved quick on one that I saw back in January it had only 63k miles and a thermal research exhaust. but I wasn't planning to buy at that time. I'm sure I'll come across something good eventually. Thanks for all the input guys.

I am waiting too... Just check the classifieds on here... You can find some nice stuff.

I have checked it, but it's like no one from this forum is from California, or at least the sellers arent. (1000s of miles away from here according to the distance meter in the classifieds).

personally i bought a '98 RS drove the engine underground, was planning on turboing it and found a jasper motor with 2000 miles on it that im going to rebuild for $450 for the amount im putting in my motor i could only pay for half of that car and ill smoke it any day of the week....if it were me buy a GST or a GS/RS and turbo them but a GSX for 10k better have a bumper to bumper warantee for the lifetime of the car....otherwise....its a dsm, be prepared to fix it....over and over again.

ok i have a chance to pick up 97 gsx, it's going to be at a auction. what are some things to look at and what would be the max price to pay.

you could look to see if the transfer case is leaking, check compression, check the cv joints inner and outer (8 altogether) for tears, make sure strut towers and rear fender wells arent rusted through.

Blue book is about 5500 for good condition. Since its at auction you cant really check for all of the things that you should normally check for.

the only useful info in that post. "First, make sure you know all the recalls for the year you're looking at. See if they've been completed. Most dealers put a sticker on the underside of the hood." i cant drive the car it was abandoned. so i pretty much have to look at everything, i can. hopfully it will start

I dont really understand what you're saying, but make sure to do:

Make a list of things that will need to be fixed after you buy it... things like: leaky valve cover gasket, leaky power steering pump, cracked vacuum lines, leaks under the car, check the belts, ask when the last timing belt was replaced, check the oil, check the brake pad wear/brake lines, check the tire wear (for alignment issues), check the CV boots, etc. Take the intake pipe off of the turbo inlet and check the shaft play of the compressor wheel - it shouldn't move. If you're not concerned about replacing a turbo soon, don't worry. Do you smell burnt oil in the engine bay? Is the engine bay dirty and not well maintained? Is the oil black instead of brown? Are there any black deposits on the dipstick or the underside of the oil cap? Does the car smoke? All bad signs.

There is a local here that is selling his talon for 1800 but i found several things wrong with it. The T-case is not working. He told me that it can be repairable because some bearing locked up. SO all I have to do is change that bearing, thats what he said. He told me the bearing itself cost 50-60 dollars from this shop who would put it on. I need to know if thats true. Another thing is that there is something wrong with the flywheel. It starts making a little noise. The good things are that its low mileage for its year, AWD when t-case is fixed :( and that the motor is rebuild with arp studs and JE pistons-it only has 600 miles on it.

This should be under the Drivetrain Section.

Has the car had the transfer case recall check done? Is the tcase completely locked, or is it just not working... aka are the rear wheels able to spin or no? You might be better off just finding a used but operational tcase off the classifieds and tossing it on there.

As far as the flywheel...there is not enough information to have any idea what its doing.

But it sounds like a good buy just for the engine alone. Drop the tcase off, drive it home, and then pull the engine/tranny and do an overhaul on the thing.

You probably wont be able to tell what is actually wrong with the case untill you take it off and look at it. What if its not just a bearing, but wil need all new parts and your just better off buying a different one. The flywheel could be in need of resurfacing, or it could be chipped on a tooth. I always say worst case scenario and then see how much money its going to take to get it running 100%. Sounds like a decent deal but he KNOWS things are wrong with it, and there could be more that he is not telling. Good luck man.

Sounds like an ok deal, lets just hope there's not much more than the t-case and fly wheel.... but if it is only those 2 things, then that's great and pick it up!

Well he has all receipts of the car. The Motor is in excellent condition. He told me about the t-case that it only needs a bearing which needs to be put in with high pressure  . The flywheel does have its teeth bad, which he said. Also the starter does not work so it needs to pushed to turn on. Oil Pressure is great. Remember this will be a track car only. The only thing I don't like about the car is the transmission has a chunk missing where the clutch and flywheel is. You can actually see the flywheel move, from up top :shhh: . But he said he got it like that, and hasn't had any problems with it. I guess I should find a way to cover it?

If it has a bad t-case and a chunk missing out of the trans that acts like a view hole for the clutch than I would personally offer him a lot less than 1800.

So I found a white with black interior 1999 GSX with 125,000 miles on it. Looks pretty stock except for a bad tinting job, an exhaust, and bad ricer taillights (except the owner selling it said that he ordered stock ones for it which is a ++). Its listed at $9,900 but he said he would come down to $9000. It is also a 5 speed.

Problem is I have a silver 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro and my mom wont let me get this car without selling the Audi. (Yes, no making fun of my 'mommy saying so') I would do it in a heart beat but I dont know if I will regret it in the long run.

Is it really worth selling the Audi for a 125,000 mile GSX?
Is the GSX what I want, I know they are a rare car to come by because of the turbo AWD. Should I sell the Audi come up with a few more grand and look for a used Evo8/STi?
Should I sell the Audi and buy a WRX Impreza?

Id put some pictures up but I dont have any.

Id like to hear from you guys on dsmtuners, what you have to say..

Thanks,

youngblood

I love my car to death, and I swear I'll rebuild it from the ground up every decade if it means I can keep it till I die.

BUT! Man is it a pain in the ass. Sometimes I dont even want to drive it cause its a shitty car for commuting. Not to mention the stuff she needs to have replaced at which seems like all times.

I'd keep the audi, to be honest. But If you really want the car then get it! I drive my life savings so I'm not one to talk :p I wanted this car so bad so I got it!
If you decided to get it, you're on the best forum there is!

Some things you might want to ask yourself though are
-what do you want out of the car?
-mostly daily driving?
-commuting?
-drag?
-autocross?
-fast street car?
-weekend warrior?

As CB hinted at, there is also another important question you need to ask yourself - Do you have the necessary funds to replace parts quickly if the car breaks down? This actually covers any vehicle you purchase for a DD, but it's something to keep in mind.
