If you wanna buy that for 9k Ill sell ya my 1g awd tsi for 6k at least that runs and drives so what if its not worth it.Just like that isnt worth 9k,like everyone else said be a different story if it ran, drove and was modified.

Don't pay that much for it. I've seen a local 2G here that had a brand new engine in it, primer coated, aftermarket rims and some extra's on the interior that obviously ran for about that much.

That guy isn't much of a friend if he's trying to con you into paying that much for it.

What I would do is print off this page and bring it to your "friend" and tell him that you aren't the only one that thinks he is crazy for trying to sell a SHELL for 9,000. Not a running car but a SHELL for 9 grand!

Yeah, you can buy a 95 and up gsx with a 6 bolt swap complete running car for 6k-/+ or so on here, and if he is "helping" build your motor forget that, 9k is way to much if you buy it for that it better come with another car or 2 motors on the side.

yea $9,000 is a rip off just look in the classifieds on this site and you will see what you could get for that much money. i saw a 99 shell and the guy only wanted $4,000 BUT it was freshly painted with a rollcage and all it needed was a motor. this is half of what that guy wants and you could get a highly modified 1g for less than that shell. Its you money, but....sounds way too much for a shell.

WOW! 9k for a non running car that is about 10 years old. Do a quick search on a few forums, this one alone has a bunch of cars for sale. Check out the prices on some running and some non running ones.

next thing you know is he will be selling you a "sandbox in Florida"

If thats the price with a newly built motor that is still rather high since you could get mint 2gb's with 50K and AWD if your patient for the same price unmolested.

Hey everybody. My brother has an eclipse but I have never owned one. I have been reading this forum for months and I know all about what I am getting into by buying a DSM, LOL. I found this car online and it's about 2 hours from where I live. I want to know what you think about me buying this car. I'm concerned about the rust in the engine bay, but it doesn't look too bad. Also, the seller said there is a little rust spot on the hatch but I don't have a picture of it.

1997 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE GSX
117,000 mi on body
abs, ac, ps, cc, tilt, lthr, p/seats, p/windows, pdl, p/mirrors, sunroof
New motor, turbo with around 40,000 miles
Rebuilt trans,and a new clutch
all stock except for intake
listed for $6500 but seller said they could go down to $6000

I plan to do all the stuff listed here http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=238710&highlight=dsm+buyer's+guide
Also, I would take it to a mechanic and run a carfax report. Just want to know what everybody thinks of it before I drive 2 hours to look at it.

Thanks for all suggestions and advice!

Looks pretty clean. I would def go take a look and get a carfax. But as the poster before me said it looks unmolested, which is super nice. If you bring like 5750 cash in hand, I bet he'd take it.

drive it and take it to a mechanic. check for crankwalk. price seems pretty reasonable. good sign if it is all stock. ask if it had any previous mods.

Looks pretty good, the price is fair, and it has'nt been modded which is a real plus. So i dont see any reason not to go over and check it out in person. Happy hunting

looks awsome, do you know if he is 1st owner? also if your taking cash, offer 5500. gsx wow ill trade ya..

Good luck.
Brian

Thanks everybody for your responses. No, the current owner is not the first owner. I won't know how many owners it has had until I carax it.

Looks can be deceiving. Ask why the original motor needed to be replaced, motors from where, installed by whom. You've got the typical strut tower rust on the drivers side. If you can, take the car for a drive, 20 or so miles, enough to see how the car acts cold and warm. Have it looked over by your mechanic, and see where it originally came from. If thats a southern car, your going to have future rust problems. The car does look clean and everything sounds good.
Just do some homework on it, ie vin# check, and engine vin# and see what happens. Get a blubook quote for what a dealer would take it for as a trade, and as a private party sale. Use original mileage; new engine, rebuilt transand clutch will not make the car worth more, thats just what it took for the car to get where it is today.. Dont be afraid to make an offer for what you think the car is worth, If he's got it listed for 6500, and says he'll take 6000, he knows what the cars really worth.
