Mine is a 1995, i bought it October of 2005 with 85,000 on the odometer. It lasted one year exactly, and in October of 2006 the oil pump went out and killed the engine. I did the regularly scheduled maintenance to it when I bought it, changed oil every 3000 miles etc...it just decided it didn't like life. Ended up killing three turbos, the engine and costing me a lot of money. The car sat around for a few months waiting on me to buy it a new engine. Ended up taking about 10 months before it finally saw the road again. The car now has a built 6 bolt with all the mods listed in my profile, it is currently getting the tranny fixed (main seal went out so it pours tranny oil) and getting some FP2 cams installed. As much as I hate dumping money into this car, I cannot help it! I am addicted to it. There is just something about DSMs...
But yea, if you can find a lower mileage DSM that has been well maintained, then by all means they are nice cars. You just have to make sure to take care of it.

edit: Also, around what could I sell my Eclipse for? It has all the mods listed in my profile and the odometer currently reads 104,000 I believe.

ive finally got ym finances together and im buying a new car... problem is i have an idea of what my car is worth but i just want all of your opinion.... it is 4 sale, but This is not a for sale post.

1999 gsx 38,000 miles.. well call it 40k
automatic, green

im figuring between 11.5 - 13k what yas all think?

the exterior is perfect except for alittle curb rash on the side skirt, paint still vibrant
leather is pretty good too, no cracks

never had any issues with her except a door handle that recent broke off in the cold weather.
only selling becuase my sons getting too big to fit in the back =(

mods are:
------------------
greddy rs bov
turbotimer
boost controller
yokahama avid 4s tires
lower intercooler pipes
thermal R&D 3" cat back
autometer gauges and gauge pod, psi / pyrometer

Keep in mind that while you know how much your car is worth based on how well you've taken care of it, it's not always what other people are willing to pay.

I'm in the same predicament. I'm trying to sell my 2002 VW GTI, becuase I don't need it anymore. While I know that it is worth well over 13k in it's present condition; I'm gonna end up letting it go for closer to 10k just to get it sold.

The car market is up and down, and right now it is down. So it's a buyers market. People are gonna want good deals. So list your car for whatever you want to and see what kind of response your getting. If your not getting any serious interest, adjust the price accordingly.

hey guys...i have another chance to pick up another dsm, but is this worth it? its a 92 talon tsi awd with a fully rebuilt motor with papers! its just missing the rear seats, rear panels, the panels next to the driver and passenger feet, and the horn. its pretty much stock besides the intercooler. stock suspension, stock exhaust and a clean title. he's gonna sell it to me for 2000! now is it worth it??? heres some pics...

looks like everything is new anyways but how many miles are on the Frame? I would pay like 7,000 for that car because its pretty old. There has to be somewhere around 15,000$ in parts into that car but no matter how many parts you put in you cant mark it up to much.

I'm interested in buying a 1995 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. Automatic. $4995 (I want to make a cash offer-how much?). Help me guys and gals! Mahalo!

Does it have a clean title history?
How's the paint, body, and interior?
How many miles?
Any major mechanical problems?

You could check the vehicle title history.

I'd pay anywhere from 3800-4800 depending on those factors.

Good Luck!

Hey guys,

Just had a quick question. I'm in the process of buying my friends 97 GSX. It has no engine, as I am gonna drop in my 4g63 6 bolt that I'm building.

My question is, how much is the car worth with no motor. It has the tranny and drivetrain, a FMIC, immaculate interior, some custom gauge work, and some ADR rims, and an Alpine Type S Stereo.

I think what he's asking me to pay is a bit ridiculous, but I could be wrong. So I just wanted your guys' opinions.

Thanks Again,
Darrel

Well, telling us how much he's asking will be a lot easier to give a thumbs up or thumbs down... but the real answer is that it depends on how much you want that one, in particular.

Also bear in mind the alterations that need to be made to get a six-bolt swap to work right, and factor that into your costs... it doesn't just drop straight in and bolt right up, after all.

I think he wants to make his own assumptions in whether he's paying too much or not. I would probably pay up to around 1500 but i'm a cheap ass. If i dont get a 1g with a bad motor for less than 500 i'm pissed. If i dont get a nice 2g with a bad motor for under 1000 i'm pissed. I'm thinking for people who's assholes are a bit looser, they should pay right around or mostly under 1500...
What are you paying?

ouch. thats a bit much for me, but you know all the details, so at the end of the day, its your decision and your money

$9000 for a non-running car seems a little high. Even with typical milage and excellent condition the car is only worth $7700 and that's running. I wouldn't pay more than $4000 for this car with no engine. And that's my high estimate....

Ha ha... reminds me of the guys (on here even) trying to sell 1Gs off for $18K. Even heavily built ones won't go for over ten, and that's at peak form.

Sounds like he's trying to recoup a whole lot of cash for not a lot of car. I doubt I'd go past three grand... nine is goddamned ridiculous for a car that doesn't even run. Hell, a lot of nice 2Gs on here are going for less than that, mildly modified.

IF he's building the engine and including it in the price (and we're talking Eagle 4340 rods, ARP fasteners, forged internals, etc) along with a decent turbo then that's not a bad deal.
If he's slapping together a chunker to get it to roll out the door, I'd go somewhere else, spend less, and get more car. Personally I'd probably do that anyway, unless he's going to warranty the engine as well.

9,000 is absolutely insane for a car with no motor. How many miles are on the body? Just to give you an example: I bought a 97 Eclipse GST with 53,000 ORIGINAL miles from an older gentleman. Full Roll cage, full suspension, big brakes, two sets of wheels and tires, and THE CAR IS IMMACULATE! Not a scratch on her. Power everything, leather interior, and stock engine. I picked it up for 7,000. Now if this guy is trying to sell you a none running car for 9,000 that is ridiculous. Just my .02

wow if you ask me not a very good friedn trying to rip you off because he lost a lot of money on the car i would pay 3,000 for the shell and go somewhere else with or for the motor, just my opinion
