Mine was in a lot downtown - walking distance from where I live .. we got DSM's floating all around over here for let.

'Sides, if you roll that thing without a tranny in it and no CV axles, gonna have to replace wheel bearings as well.

True, 14yr old kids have plenty of time to find what they really want - but have to learn not to be so impulsive in what you want...take your time.

well my area sucks too... I like you found one that was over priced i paid 1800 for my 97 with a blown motor... the question you have to ask your self is "what is it worth to me"

Hello everyone at DSM Tuners,

I've browsed your site for more than a year (unregistered) waiting for the day I'd have the opportunity to purchase an Eclipse. I have always been particular about what I wanted, so I planned to purchase a 98/97 Eclipse GS-T.

Unfortunately I have been unlucky with finding one that actually runs, so I have been looking to purchase a 1995 Eclipse GS.

Now I know a few things, like the GS is a 420a engine, and has less chance of a crank walk, and the GS-T is a 4G63T and is already turbo'd while the 420a isn't.

Just a few quick basic questions I have to ask..

What would be the average amount spent on turboing your 420a?

Does having an older model like a 95 prevent me from doing the great things owners of
GS-T's and GS-X's can do?

And if you personally had to price this purchase, of a running, non turbo 95 eclipse gs,
for around $1200.. would you scoop up on it?

I appreciate any answers; and if I have violated in any rules I do appolgize and accept my warn for stupidity.

Thanks guys.

I dont know exactly how much it would cost to turbo it.But you need a turbo, manifold, injectors, fuel pump, intercooler, intercooler piping, oil feed line, oil return line, engine management,a lot of time.Im sure it would be quite expensive.I would personally not do it I would just wait for a gsx.But 1200 bucks depending on the shape of the car and what not seems pretty cheap. It's your call but in the end it would probably be cheaper to just get a gst or gsx.

I have a 97 n/t gs eclipse with the 420a its a good starter car i've put about 2,000 in it sense i got it no real power in the 420a. The 420a motor can only handle around 7 psi of boost so to turbo it is a waste of time.Ive seen the turbo 4g63s handle over 30 psi. To do real up grades tho the 420a is real limited and hard to find good parts. if you can find a n/t for around 1200 that's a pretty good deal if its in good shape a paid a 1000 for mine. And if you go older like 95 your options are the same its still a ba 2g:thumb:. Great cars for every day driving the n/ts but if your looking for the best to mod and make 300hp easy go with a gs-t or gs-x. If you have any other ?s about the 420a i rebuilt mine top to bottom and have done the little mods i could on a small budget military don't pay well LOL just send me a msg.

As a thought, you can still learn a lot on a non-turbo Eclipse, this is what I am doing. Get comfortable with the non-turbo and see if you think it would be worth it to turbo it. You may find it will be easier in the long run to buy a turbo vehicle and work on it to bring it up where you want it.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

Thanks for all your help guys; you gave some great info. I think in the long run I'll eventually switch to a GST/GSX. But for now I'll use the GS as a starter. :)

He said everything was done right and he had all the Receipt when. I called him and i asked him for Receipt for the labor, He told me he does not have it. What a clown!

Get this, He bought the car from a guy 1 month ago and now he is selling it.

Hey guys, reference to this thread: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/new...st-oil-leak-other-possible-repairs-costs.html

Whats this DSM worth? 97 GST up for 2500 with mods. (unknown mileage as of yet, didn't ask)

Is it worth going out to look at it, I mean I will have a mechanical inspection done on it pre-buy, but whats the worst case and best case scenario for finding where that oil leak could be coming from? My main issue is repair costs. I don't want them to go over 1,500.

Here's the description by the seller:

"this car has a evo turbo, greddy intercooler, xs power blow off valve, injen intake,3 inch medro bent exhaust, and is tuned with afc neo, also has coil overs...the biggest issue is that it has a oil leak and i just dont have the time to deal with it and the driver window needs a new motor..... "

Any insight? Thank you in advance.

EDIT(Update):
- I called and found out the car has about 120,000 miles on it, and that the oil leak is allegedly coming from the oil feed line to the turbo. The guy selling it is a mechanic but claims he doesn't have time to fix the leak...

Should i think this is a bit shady (as in there's other things wrong with the car: hence the price) or should It still be worth checking out and giving it an independent mechanical inspection to reassure myself of any other serious issues pre-buy?

been looking for a project car and may have found it. 90 gs turbo 5speed fwd. he wants 1400 obo. says new fuel pump and clutch. engine bay sorted out and clean. blue car with white talon wheels. gonna go look at it here in a bit, but just wondering, the motor ticks, he seems to be concerned with it. ticking common with this motor? are the valves adjustable? i had a 98 sohc neon, that motor ticked, it seemed to be a common thing, just wondering if this could be a good deal? this will be a toy car by the way, just wanna know if it would be alright to drive around now!

Yes, this is common on our cars, and as suggested swap to 3G lifters. Some people have good results after using seafoam, synthetic oil, engine restore, and lucas oil stabilizer products.

"just wanna know if it would be alright to drive around now!"

We have no clue. We cannot see the car to know what shape its in.

oh, alrightie then. ill definitely need to check it out then. i believe ill be getting it for a decent price. the driving it around part was just in reference to the ticking.. course i dont know why i asked since i havent heard it either!

Ok im buying a 1990 eclipse gs its AWD turbo'd of course. I dont plan on driving or keeping this car for long just to fix her up and sell her and plus its only $300:thumb:. The guy said the head was bad which he was right. The timing belt snapped and took a couple valves! I was wondering if the head will still be usable maybe just take the springs, retainers, and valves out and put stock ones back in if the car will be ok? And is it common for the bottom end or the pistons be hurt because of this? And lastly what else would i need to replace?...water pump and belt. THanks:thumb:

replace the valve guides, seals and valves. make sure the pistons aren't cracked. Have the head pressure tested to make sure it's not cracked. have them check to see if it's warped or not, if so see if it can be milled.

Replace the timing belt, water pump, check the crank pulley and if pulling the whole motor do the rear main seal.

:D thats what i was thinking but this is my 3rd build and the guy was trying to "jew" me out of the thing asking for alot more but oh well i got. I just need to know if im getting into more than i can chew!

I would have the head checked and whatever is bent replaced then have the pistons and rings checked since the heads off and they are there...

ok awesome! i dont plan on pulling the whole motor ### thats not my favorite thing to do!ROFL but i am going to take the head off and get it tested and while its off check the pistons. I have an extra set of stock valves springs and retainers from a JDM 4g63 head w 30k on it so they should work pretty good! The only thing i would need to buy is the water pump and belt oh and pay for the head to get tested, i hope!
