Hey old pals!

I've been driving my newer 1g around for a long time now and I'm happy yet I randomly stumbled upon a 96 GSX in Michigan. Family owned original owners, 87k miles, selling to get a 4-door. The car is bone stock and has had a bunch of stuff replaced. They want $2500. I'm thinking wow, I suppose I haven't looked in a long time but that's damn cheap for an unmodded GSX. I'm considering purchasing and possibly reselling at the end of the summer and make a pretty good profit. Or am I crazy... curious to hear some thoughts on this!

(New parts: front cv axle, 4 new disc brakes, new harmonic balancer & water pump, thermostat, interstate battery, plugs & wires, stock side mount, etc)

I would take a good look at the frame and the sub assembly of the car. Being in the great state of Michigan where they actually salt the roads. You will probably have the precious cancer lurking everywhere. I would buy it and resell it, then throw that money into your first gen.

Hey guys,

just wanted some expert opinions.

I found an add for a 98 eagle talon tsi awd with 120k miles. Always adult owned and not one upgrade on it. very clean condition.

guy has it up for $4500.00 dollars blue book says its worth $3800 max but I wanted to ask you guys since it is a pretty niche market.

so, how much is it worth?

Edit< forgot to mention it has every option available at date of purchase. I don't know too much about these cars so maybe someone could hook me up with an options list.

Have you even gone a looked at the car?

good question. No I have not, that is another reason I wanted to post on this forum. to get some specific things I should look at when I go see this car. I think you guys will know best about what to look for as far as what things can go bad on these cars most often.

That price sounds pretty decent actually for a 98 talon awd... If it is in good shape and everything is straight i would pick it up

I paid $4500 for my 97 two years ago. Make sure you look it over for rust, especially on the strut towers under the hood and on the sub frame "frame rails". Get a list of what maintenance has been done (especially timing belt).

You can try offering him $4k cash and see if he bites.

What has been replaced maintenance wise? (should have a few things done since it's 120k)
Pics?

agreed^

from the add:

The timing belt, coolant pump, belts, and battery have been changed. A complete tune up and synthetic oil change have been done as well.

ill upload pics one second.

That thing looks nice & clean . . . That`s my exact car except for the grey interior (mine`s tan). I`d say that $4500.00 is pretty fair if the rest of the car is as clean as it looks in the images . . . :talon:

first, when it comes to dsm, you cannot go by the book. for some reason, these cars bring a pretty good amount over the book. especially when they are in the stock form. its like my mint condition 93 laser awd , the book says like 1,300 and ive been around these cars for some time and i know id get close to 3 grand for mine in stock form
the car looks wise is def worht the money he's asking, but i never pay THEIR price. try to get him down to even 4,000

thanks so much for your reply's guys, I had planned initially to offer 4k cash if I believe the car is in as good condition as the add says and the seller is being honest. Now I don't feel so bad about offering over blue book value.

Are there any other things I should specifically look at on this car when I go see it?

Check the strut towers under the hood for rust . . . I doubt you`ll find any on that car - it looks like it`s been garaged all it`s life. Also, try to peek under the car & look for leaks or signs of any previous paintwork . . .

I have a 420A with 100K on it. It has low compression, around 100. It ran perfect, and drove with no problems. Just a little loss of power.
I was wondering what you guys think its worth.
A guy offered me 100 bucks.WTF
So im out to get your guys' opinion.
