I have receipts for all parts purchased. receipts from the engine builder and from the head--Head also rebuilt by overbore.com

(going to dyno tune it shortly at turbotrix in NJ)

Doubt I will sell it at least not yet but anyone have an idea what something like this might be worth around. Spent a ton of money so far and don't know if I will be able to keep it. Considering a very good tune and perfect running condition?
Have receipts for everything installed and bought everything. All professionally installed and rebuilt. All parts bought were brand new. Nothing was reused or bought used. Clutch has 8k on it(no launches at all. Daily commuter. everything else has under 150 miles on it.

Just totaled everything that I bought and had installed including labor and it came out to just over 9 grand in parts mostly including a little amount for labor. Have receipts for all that, including what was put in the engine etc. Everything bought brand new.

If someone has a guestimate let me know.

Probably would have been a bit more if you hadn't thrown on the turbo etc. I would think a stock dsm with that low mileage would go for a decent amount, sorry can't give figures, but once it has been modded might lose little compared to one with such few miles stock. Maybe I am wrong here though.

So I went to look at a 1990 Eagle Talon TSI AWD today I found about 2 weeks ago. I'm 16 and looking for a nice DSM. There are pretty hard to find as you know. So the one I went to look at today I would classify the condition as "good" going by what KBB and NADA say. The drivers seat is torn, the roof lining needs replaced, and its got 155000 miles on it. What is the average mileage for a 1990 AWD DSM? So on my way up to see it(it's about 25 minutes from my house) he txts me and tells me when he went to start it the battery died, but if I wanted to I could still come up to see it. When I got there he also said that the turbo starts and then it stops. What does that mean? There is also 2 minor dents in the body by the right front wheel. The hatch has to be held open, the hydralics are bad. He said he could put another stock turbo on it, but he figured he'd let whoever buy it put another stock or aftermarket turbo on so they could decide. He also said he put very, very few miles on it for the year he had it. Now the previous owner put on a new timing belt and did something wrong and a vavle came up. (I'm trying to write this just as he told me.) So he replaced everything that needed replaced. His ad says the compression test was 150 across the board. I'm goin to look at it again asap when he fixes the battery. Now my problem is I don't know what kind of condition a car from 1990 should be in. The are like 3 tiny ships on the edge of the door and 2 on the hood. It looks to me like little pebbles from our great PA roads flew up and chiped the paint on the hood, and these are rarely visible, I'm just a picky person, LOL. He's asking 2200 but NADA and KBB has it arount 1300. Should I pay what he's asking and how much should I expect to put into the car for those minor cosmetic defects? Any advice for me? And sorry for the long post, I'm still searching for the minor things.

sounds like he doesnt know what hes talking about, does it run? or are the valves bent... if it has been fixed, why would he mention it unless hes hiding something?
reminds me of the guy i bought my 90 GSX from a year ago. he told me the previous owner rebuilt the motor, and put in all these new parts. the turbo went bad he said, and so he (the guy i bought it from) *Upgraded* it to a T25... well it took me about a week after i bought it to figure out that the oil leak was the headgasket, and not because he didnt tighten the oil lines to the turbo down, and to figure out that the T25 flows almost half as much as the Stock 14B... i was 16 at the time, turning 17 in a few months, and i didnt know a thing about cars, or at least i know that now LOL.

other than that, from the pictures in the link, it looks pretty clean. btw, i payed 3200 for mine...and the A/C didnt even work. now that its running good, i dont regret it.

It sounds really fishy to me with the car not being able to start because of the battery last minute, and a 90 doesn't have a stock T25 turbo, that's only 95+. The stock turbo is a 14b, which has a little better power potential, but definately not double the flow. I would say keep looking...

The supposedly fixed engine damage on the valves and the sudden dead battery sound fishy, and if the guy has a t25 turbo on it he must be stupid or who he bought it from was. My brother bought the same model with more body damage but with a perfect engine for $1150. Buy this car if you like fixing sudden problems a lot.

Whose ad is that? The guy who presently owns the car? Or the previous owners? because the ad originated in Nov '06. If that car is still for sale after 8 months it's probably a bad sign. I agree with everybody else. I wouldn't take my chances with it because it sounds like it'll be a major project.

Sorry, my mistake, he didn't say T25, I accidentally typed that. And the ad is from the current owner. Also he didn't mention why all those parts were replaced untill I asked him. He just told me what all it had on it that was new....he didn't mention the timing belt from the previous owner until I arrived at his garage, we talked on the phone several times before that also.

I'm guessing it runs fine because he didn't mention any problems with the engine........and btw......the engine bay was pretty damn clean compared to the cars my frinds and their parents own. You wouldnt be able to tell it was a 1990 from under the hood.

If he lets you, take it to a good mechanic for an inspection. Do a compression test, look at the suspension, drivetrain, Check out the turbo, check timing. Maybe a leakdown test too. You will have the car gone for a few hours while this is going on which is why i say "if he lets you". You might spend 100 bucks in the process, but you'll find out A LOT that way. I'd also ask for receipts if he has them for anything he did to it.

Personally, I'd think a car that was listed that far over its KBB value should be in perfect condition, not have a blown turbo. If you cant talk him down alot in price, then maybe

Sounds like he snapped the timing belt. Thats a good sign of the car being bagged or not properly maintained. The right thing to do would be to take it to mechanic and get it inspected. If it passes inspection offer him 2000$ and say you need to replace the turbo so yoiu need the extra coin. If it fails inspection and it only needs front end parts drop you offer to 1500/1300$. If mechanically engine wise it fails, walk away not today disco lady. It looks to be in pretty nice shape and being a guy who just bought one of these cars, i'll tell you they are alot of work to maintain but when they are running right you will have a blast.

The current owner told me that the previous owner replaced the timing belt but it was off a little and then that's when the valve came up and all everything that needed replaced was replaced.

Then it should run, boost or no boost. Put a charger on it or give it a boost. If it drives take it to a mechanic and do what i just said. Trust me im a salesman, i know how to bargain and what this stuff it worth.

+1 for taking it to a mechanic, or at least bringing along someone who knows his stuff.
That much over KBB is a tad high. I paid $2000 for mine with a blown ECU, but everything else was MINT. A/c blew cold adn the rear struts even worked. Like someone else, said even if it has a blown turbo, it will run. I would stay clear of this one and keep looking.
Good luck

So from him saying that the turbo starts and stops it's more than likely blown?

I have a chance to pick up a 90 laser fwd turbo for 850

Good:
engine 101k miles
no dents in body

Bad:
needs turbo
ex manifold
ecu
paint is terrible needs to be completely done sanded and painted
corner light broken

My question is: is it worth it for this car,
I have a turbo, mani, and a brand new race trans w/ kormex lsd not to mention several other parts.
Should I get it?
I would really appreciate any input, Thanks

If you've got the money to fix it up and you want a project go for it.

Either that or save the money for when your current one breaks... you know it will... ROFL

The thing is the dsm i had is in pieces and parted out to get out of debt to get married.....now i have a chance to have a turbo car again. The problem is the body is in terrible condition and would 850 be a decent price for a 90 and all the problems that they have.
