Hey guys, I'm new here... straight from Honda-Tech (no flaming haha), and I just sold my 2nd Civic, now I'm looking to get into the DSM scene. Right now I'm looking at a 1995 Talon TSi FWD. The thing is a complete virgin (no mods what so ever), but its missing a corner light has a large chip in the front bumper and other very minor cosmetic problems. It has 105K on the odometer and the interior and engine are immaculate. Do you think the asking price of $3800 is fair? I was thinking closer to $3000 than that, but I don't know much about DSM's. I'll try to get some pics up of it when I check it out again, thanks.
 
Ok, so the price is $4500. I'd be buying it from a friend that has had shitty luck with his wife, got a divorce, now basically selling everything he owns. He's gonna let me take the car and do payments
What I'll get: A 96 AWD Talon with only 77k miles on it. Super clean inside and out. Engine 'seized' according to him, but he from what he's telling me I think its just the starter. He says it 'just clicks'. All thats missing from the car is the turbo, a battery, and plug wires.
But there is more...he'd also be including an engine that he showed me the reciepts for, it cost him $7000, built straight from Slowboy. Its fully built. I'm not sure what it is, but it has a COMP crankshaft....anyone know anything about that? I guess they supposedly dynoed this engine at Slowboy with a 16g at 18psi and it hit 420hp. It is a 7 bolt engine though, stage 3 1g head, built bottom end....APR head studs, Cometic headgasket, balance shaft removed, eagle rods, crower pistons (can't quite remember)

So, is it something I should be getting myself into? And does anyone smell BS with this engine? I saw it sitting in his house still in the wrapping....but it is a 7 bolt though.
 
Nothing wrong with a 7 bolt, plenty of those blocks have made some serious power. As far as the 400hp at 18psi on a 16g, that's not really believable, might be if it has some serious cams, but doubt it at that level.
Sounds like a good deal, hell if I had $4000 I'd be all over it. See if you can find someone in your area that knows alot about DSM's and have him look it over, including the reciepts.
 
There is no possible way it dynoed that. Maybe they might get close if nitrous was used but no way in hell did they dyno that on 18psi.

16g's maxed out are not rated at 420whp.

You could always take the car and sell the SBR engine and parts out of the car, make money off it and put another engine in it as well. $4k for a car he just bought a $7k engine for is a pretty good deal.

Edit:

I re-read it and it seems as if they were probably using an engine dyno to break it in I'm guessing. 420bhp is more believable on an engine dyno. Still pretty high for only 18psi on a 16g though.

6 or 7 bolt, doesnt really make a difference on how much power is made, as long as they are built correct, they will both hold the same power and abuse.

A completely unmolested T/E/L w/ less than 9K put on it yearly is very hard to come by. It's a good buy, IMHO. But, of course offer 3000. See if you get it. . . before settling for the asking price.

The 1995 will LIKELY have the 2G eprom ecu in it. This was the ONLY year that the 2g ecu came w/ an eprom. No other 2G ecus can be "chipped". This alone is worth $200.
 
Hey im new here and i need to know some thoughts on a car....ok there is this 1995 Blue Eagle Talon TSI AWD car. Aftermarket turbo running at 18 psi and other mods. The car has 170,000 miles on it but the engine was rebuilt at 120,000. I know this guy a little and i know he doesnt rod on it ALOT and he flushed the trany fluid out before and said there were no marks or bad signs about it. He just bought black rims with tires for 1600(for all 4) and has is asking 6200 for it? Is this a good price or what????Thanks
 
i'd say as long as its not trashed, and the exterior/interior is good. thats not a bad price at all. I'd have somebody check it over first though to be safe, especially if your new to dsms.

oh its not....its actually in like prefect cond. the paint likes new and the interior doesnt have one flaw..this guy knows quite abit a bout cars and treats them really good. 2 other of my freinds know him really good and they both have 2 eclipse's...but other then that it would be a car to get then?he's pushing 285 in it now. how high could u get the car up to in hp do u think?
 
Hola, I have an '06 Altima right now as my daily driver and I love working on cars except the one I have is not really great for modding, lots of money for no go. I don't plan on selling it, it'll be my driver while I work on the DSM (if I finally decide on buying one)

So I'm looking to buy a GSX or TSi (awd) second gen.

What's the max I should be spending on one? I know finding one unmodded and with lower miles I gonna be tough, but what should I be looking at spending? I've seen em from 3k for tons of miles to 10k for 70kish miles.

I just sold my car for 8700 it was a 97 GSX mods still in profile for now...no one said I would get over 7000 but hey what ever. Just some reference for you.
 
Sometimes cheaper isn't always better, I would save up my money if I were you and spend it on a good low mile dsm. With under 90,xxx. We bought a clean 98 gsx for 6800 in prestine condition with 63,000 on it.
 
Ok, i have to post one now. I am attempting to sell my 93 N/T FWD 2.0 talon. I am asking $2500 for it and am not sure if I am asking too much. Here is what is done to the car :

New engine mid last year from Japan. Stock replacement with < 30,000 miles. Put about 20,000 on it so far.
Transmission rebuilt 2 years ago. Shifts fine.
New Clutch 1,000 miles ago.
Walpro 255 Fuel Pump
AFPR from Ebay. Gauge messed up, but does not leak.
Cheap Cold Air Intake from ebay... still works.
17" Finn Rims Limited Editions. See picture to left.
Number 1 coilover springs.
Full exhaust upgrade. Header > down pipe, 2 1/2" all the way back with Cat and Turbo 3 muffler. No tip.
Cheap body kit from ebay.....front does not fit too well, but it is not coming off. still primer
Paint job....did it myself in 1 night. not the best. Needs alot of body work.
Comes with full system. Sony Cd Player. can't remember exactly what it is but it cost me a little over $300 brand new. Pioneer 3 way Yellow cone door speakers all the way around. Two Alpine Type R 12" subs with Bostwick 1100 watt 1/4 ohm stable amp and a 5 farad Stinger Cap.

Things wrong with the car :
Needs driver front axle.....starting to pop.
Needs alot of body work.
Needs tires...really bad.
No A/C. Took out compressor and front condenser.
Has no interior in the hatch.
No Visors.
rear defrost does not work
power mirrors do not adjust.
the body of the car has 185,000 miles on it.

So....with all that said....how much do you think my car is worth? and what should I sell it for?
 
Im looking at a 93 laser with 130k power everything works but int. is shit, it runs and drives good eavin though the turbo is not hooked up. is it worth it just for the 6bolt and do the power options transfer to a 2g
