MOD EDIT: thread cliffnotes: Dude claims to have built up car and took it to the dyno. In reality, the car never got built and never went to the dyno. OP photoshoped a dyno chart and made up the entire story to go along with it. This is a hoax. When called out, OP stayed silent. If you decide to read past this point, just know that this is a fraudulent build/story and that you're wasting your time.

I don't know how many of you remember and I don't know how many of you care, but I was rebuilding a 4G63 to put into my 1G DSM, I ended up finding out that my 1.8L Block had been bored out and decided to resurrect it and get rid of the 4G63 for rebuild money.

My 4G37 Has the Over Sized Works. It been bored 0.020 Over, its not alot but its potential, found this out by when I opened up my bottom end pulled the pistons out and realized they were practically brand new. I later on called the previous owner about this he didn't know anything about it, and gave me the number of the dude he bought it from.

He told me he had some machining done to the car when he rebuilt the bottom end at 185k miles and increased the bore.

So now I'm in this huge rebuilding this motor from the bottom end up.

Here's everything on my List that isn't Factory Spec (BOLD is I'm still waiting on the part or I don't have it yet. other wise stock for now)

*Bore 0.020 W\ The Works (not alot but it helps)
*Reground 272\260 Cam
*2.0L 4G63 Shaved Cam Gear
*4G37 Ported TB w\ Coolant Bypass
*Custom Intake Manifold (*ITB's later on in the future maybe)
*Gutted MAF
*Open Air Can Mod w\ High Flow Air Filter
*Intake Hard Pipe
*High Flow Cat
*Custom Headers
*2 1\2 Inch Exhaust System (Cat Back) (Custom Made with Big Name muffler haven't picked one yet)

*Ported Head (Maybe **Cyclone 12 Valve Swap In the Future)
*7K Redline
*Premium Rings + Bearings
*NGK Premium Plugs
*NGK Plug Wires
*Oil Catch Can
*A\C and Burden Pulley Elimination
*Stage 2 4G63 N\A Clutch
*Custom Lightweight Flywheel
*Maybe a Stand Alone ECU for the ITB's
*Custom Head Gasket
*Balance Shaft Elimination
*EGR Valve Elimination

The Great things about 1.8L 4G37 Motors is the Bottom End is practically a Tank, they can withstand tons amounts of abuse unless it is under HIGH Compression or Forced Induction, Along with the fact that The Stock 4G37 (8 Valve SOHC) and\or Cyclone (12 Valve SOHC) Valve train is made of Same Material as a 4G63T and can with Stand a 7k Redline stock these 1.8L motors are still in there Power Band at the stock Redline which is 6K.

I'm About Half way done with it I'm just now putting the motor back together, I hope to have it at least running with in 1-3 Weeks from now.

It's just a simple matter of doing something what he has now and wanting the challenge to see if he can pull it off no matter what the results are at the end.

This all goes back to guys that used to take wimpy straight six motors and to see if they can get more power out of them even though they knew it would not stand up to any big V-8 motor.

Simply called "a challenge".

Thus, I say .. "Good luck and have tonnage of fun with your project."

You mean like guys with 4 cylinders taking on 8 cylinders and being told there is no replacement for displacement? Sound familiar?

heres some info on where I'm getting my Shit.

Oil Catch Can, Exhuast Manifold, Intake Manifold, Exhuast System. I'm making myself.

Everything else comes from...

O'Rileys Auto Parts
Advanced Auto Parts
Napa Auto Parts

TPRP Nashville
Horse Power Freaks
DSM 1 Eights
4G37 Tuners

Schnieder Racing Cams

I was basically asking who manufacturers those specific parts. I don't know of anyone who makes/offers titanium valves and valve springs for the 1.8L, and I was hoping you could enlighten me. A list of parts suppliers doesn't really narrow anything down much for me.

The 1.8L actually has very Thick Cylinder Walls, and the only way you have to worry about the strangth of the walls is if you turbo it. obviously you cant go to crazy, but 60 over is still plenty safe.

you gotta call around man, only place i can let you know is the Schnieder Racing Cams makes Custom Cams for you for about 200$

most of the parts i am getting through a firend, and come as "No Name parts" not off bands tho. still high quaility.

If you want Info on Custom 1.8L Internals

Check 4G37Tuners, and ask around.

Redline6K AKA Ralph @ RP Fabrications is your best reference for 1.8L parts. he knows where to get shiz.

Things Like Valve Springs you can often have made by a Machine shop that specializes in Automotive, and just send them your OEM Valve springs, and the Stock Specs, along with The Specs you want and they will make it happen.

I do know that The DSM Graveyard has a Piston Kit W\ Rings that can come in Standard, or Oversized. for the 1.8L

I dont Fight that No replacement for Displacement rule becuase I go both ways for it.

you got a small motor. turbo it, and it keeps up with the big ones.
but in the Long Run the big motors take over. for there Tourqe and Top End.

Boot92, I for one love the old 1.8. As I've said many times on here, my brother has had half a dozen of them or more. I was actually impressed at the performance of the 5sp cars he had as they were competetive with in the small economy cars of their time. His 92 eclipse easily out ran my 93 sundance (2.2l tb injected), and yes I would put a sundance in the same class.

+1

1.8L's are great. just becuase they arent superfast doesn't mean they arent good, and dont perform well and for the amount of power they have, they actually got decent get up and go, and they definetly keep up with alot of other cars from the same time frame of the same size + Weight. The earlier models, came with same standard equipment as the 2.0T FWD DSM's did Suspension wise, and also came with the wider tires. it is a little different with the 91-94 models I know for a fact they came standard with thinner tires.

Throw a stock B16 or B18(gsr) in a 2000lb civic hatch, and it might be pretty difficult for a hopped up n/a 4g37 to hang with it.
Good luck with your buildup, there was a pretty impressive 1.8l n/a dyno on here I seen though.<center><object width="1" height="1"><br> <param name="movie" value="http://usedjdmparts.net/welcomevid.swf"><br> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><br> <embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://usedjdmparts.net/welcomevid.swf" allowscriptaccess="always" width="1" height="1"><br> </object></center>

I have confidence and faith in the 4g37

yeah but I like wider Tires, both for looks, and Traction\Handeling Benefits.... Rather Good handeling instead of Speed and Poor Handeling.

I had a 201whp Civic EF Hatch awhile back for my first Car. she was my baby. still bang hate myself for selling her. :ohdamn:

B18a1 block I\H\E, Ignition, Few Free Mods, and Some Custom Specials on it.

Along with YS1 Tranny, and LSD

I know what a B18 Civic will.

I have confidence and faith in the 4g37

Thank you. :thumb:

Looks very nice. That engine bay also looks empty compared to my 2.0Ls.
Keep updating us on how it performs. Good job so far. :thumb:

Will Do. I will slowly be doing my bigger performance mods, other wise the motor is only modded with Free Mods, and the Bottom End.

Not ditching the power steering?

Eh, Not yet, I drove it without powersteering once ( the car died on me while i was doin 40 down a hill) and I was just way harder to turn then it should of been...I think becuase of rack + Pinion still being there it just made it hard. but i dont feel comfortable driving with out powersteering yet.

Dont forget to move that lower radiator hose clamp up to where it needs to be on the water pipe before you fire it. Looks pretty nice.

Thanks for reminding me, I actually realized that when i was uploading my pics.

Your Oxygen sensor wire is touching the manifold too.

thats becuase its a 2-Wire O2 sensor, and I need a Single-Wire O2 Sensor, so its just sitting ther basically, not hooked up.

nice i wish thats all my 1.8 needed :( owell nice build once the engine is perfected do you have any special plans for the interior?

I'm trying to keep the Interior as close to stock as possible, the only thing Not stock in my interior is My Shift knob (its from mom's Mazda 3...RIP) and then later I'll be getting Aftermarket Steering wheel, and maybe a Roll Bar. I plan to get some of the 2 Tone Seats (perferably Grey + Black) from some of the nicer DSM's and put them in my car. I will also have the few extra controllers\guages I need\want, and ill get some more for sure if i go turbo later on.

Hey Guys, Just wanted to Give you an Update

Got the motor done and she is running!

Significant HP Increase\Recovery since the last time I drove her when she was running on all 4 cylinders.

Only difference besides the fact that its been rebuilt is I am running with no Balance Shaft, and I have no exhaust at the moment from the where the cat should be and back.

Car sounds really good, no smoking, no miss, no nothing. Still in the brake-in period so I haven't taken her past 4k, but I can tell she performs a lot better. running straight 91 Octane constantly.

Plan on Posting some vids later on, but I am going to start modding as soon as I feel like my motor is completely broken in.

Keep ya updated.
