Hey guys, I'm planning on graduating from the T25 LOL, I like the idea of the T28 bolting right on and still looking stock, but the $300 price difference of the 16G is also appealing, current mods are 255 fuel pump, apexi cold air intake, unused but installed boost controller, boost gauge, greddy bov, fresh set of ngk plugs, apexi catback that will be installed next week and megan racing downpipe that should be here within the next week or 2. Like I said the idea of a direct bolt on is nice and I know I will need to add an extra $100 or so on and install kit for the 16G so any info or experiances with either is greatly appreciated :rocks:

The drop in T28 price and the 16g install kit and 16g price make it a wash dollar wise. The EVOIII 16g is a superior turbo and spools up as quickly, I couldn't tell the spool difference between them after the install. Don't worry about the install, Dejonpowerhouse.com sells a bolt on 16g j-pipe that connects either to the stockside mount intercooler or to an aftermarket FMIC routing the pipes near the drivers side. This makes things a bolt-on affair.

I had to open up the mounting holes on my turbo oil return line with a hand file, and bent a turbo water line by hand, and used a 14b oil feed line to do my 16g install, and purchased a pre-made j-pipe. I'd skip the T28, the EVOIII 16g blows it away and spools up the same and leaves you gobs more room for big power.

Spend your money on injectors, an AFPR, a wideband, a datalogger, and an SAFC. A 16g or T28 will be pointless without those. Then get a used 14b and install kit. When the 14b gets to be not enough, sell it (fmost likely for what you bought it for) and get the 16g and a front mount intercooler.

I agree with the posts above.

Take into consideration those who don't know any better will assume the 16G is stock because most people expect a "big" turbo when you pop the hood.

I get a kick out of telling people it's stock w/ bigger piping anyway.ROFL

I've looked for 14B's all around where I live, they are extremely hard to come by and any you do find are blown and there are no shops around that would be compitent enough to rebuild one

As long as the shafts, wheels, etc are fine you can rebuild them cheap. There is a whole DIY on vfaq.com and you can send it out to justmx to get it balanced or source some local heavy duty diesel shops that have the right equipment.

Or just send the whole thing out to justmx and I'm sure he'll give you a much better deal then what you encounter for most turbo rebuilds.

14Bs are easy to come by, it's just finding one that's not screwed up. I have one by the way if your interested.

Yeah, old technology is true. I read an article and the WRC rally engineers were commenting that they switched from the twin scroll turbine housings back to a single scroll for better high rpm power on the EVO's, and still using an internal wastegateWTF. We are talking cars that are in the million dollar range.

very interested, only thing that worries me is install, there are 0 shops around here, my buddy had a talon and blew the turbo, bought a t28, took it to a "compitent" shop and the guy hooked all the lines up wrong and blew the turbo after 5 min of driving, and I have basic mechanical skill but dont know if its enough to do myself

+1, and he mite just have a few laying around now. I get the chance to go out and play at his place tonite, LOL woo!!

IMO both turbos are old technology. So many better choices to make good power. If I could do it over I would have skipped the 16g. Very hard turbo to make power on pump gas.

True, doesn't sound like the OP is shooting for whining his turbo out to the max. He doesn't have the supporting mods yet to take full advantage.

true I'm not aiming to make gobs of power, just a turbo that doesnt die off so fast, a little extra oomph thats all, boost will probably never go past 15psi, I do alot of highway driving and the t25 runs out of breath to fast IMO hell I'd even settle for a good 14b if I could find one around where i live, unfortunetly every junkyard both here, calgary and surrounding areas have been raped of them already so they are very scarce around here, I come across beaten ones but like I said, there is nowhere at all to take it to to get rebuilt or installed

A solid 14B sounds like you'll be contempt with the results and be able to stay with in the limits of your stock fuel system. If you get itchy for more boost consider a fuel pump re-wire and datalogger before you start going over 15psi.

Contact justmx on here. Shipping to Canada I'm sure is expensive in itself.
Look up some Canada DSM forums, the 14b is the stepping stone of the 2G.

4b11 is a better motor than the 4g63 too. But its about what you know :)
