So,
this is the situation, i have got a 14b that was free from a friend but it needs to be rebuilt because of shaft play, potential crack on inside plus one broken off bolt on compress side. what i want to know is if i shoud rebuild it or just try to sell it for a non problematic turbo. also is it possible to upgrade the 14b during a rebuild? say with a 16g wheel? or should i buy a new turbo say 16g or t28. i am looking to get to the 300hp club.. i figure any more then that will cost more $$. if i sell it on say ebay what can i expect to get for it? this is the whole setup including o2 housing. well hope to get some direction from the dsm gods.. thanx for any help

My friend had a big 16g in his 2g, and he was running at over 350hp dynoed. Also, alot of people upgrade to 16g, so there is alot of people to talk to about how to go about boost levels and supporting mods.

It is possible to convert a 14b into a 16g; however, you would need more than just the compressor wheel. You will need the 16g center cap which matches the tapered profile on the back of the 16g compressor wheel. The 14b also uses the 6cm exhaust housing, whereas the 16g uses a 7cm one. By the time you buy a rebuild kit, 16g comp wheel, exhaust housing, and have it balanced, you will probably end up spending more converting it than it would to actually buy a 16g.

Looks like the motor that turbo was on let loose. I personally would never buy a used turbo unless I could see it first.

Plus the buy it now is about how much you can buy a new one for, also I would go with the true mitsubishi evo not the gt because it has been proven to work for a long time. The gt is new and not as much reviews, plus mitsubishi makes the best turbos in my opinion.

IMO, I would stay away from those replica 16g's. The "16g GT" are a made-in-china turbo and many people have reported them failing prematurely. Go for the real mitsu evo3 16g.

Some places might take your 14b as a core trade in. You can definitely meet your goal with a b16g or an evo III.

I thought it was funny how the guy selling it says that it is a real MHI Turbo when really it is the EVO III "GT"......Stay away from that turbo and just buy one brand new....They are pretty cheap now days.

You can pick up a 14b for like $50 used and in good shape.QUOTE]

You can? LOL I will take 8 of them please :coy:

Seriously it's hard to find a 14B that is in good shape, let alone in good shape and cheap. If it's $50, it will probably be a smoker and not last long.

Anyone got any 14B's that are in good shape for $50? Let me know! I will buy every last one of them.
