ok guys i no this question has been asked a ton i just want to know what i should go with in my situation... ok so 14b turbo sitting for a year and a half so im guessing its going to need a rebuild plus whatever i need to buy to install it. $50 for just turbo. another person is selling a t28 which is a direct bolt on for $120 he says it has no shaft play. my goal for the car is 300hp or as close as i can without spending a lot of money. i think i am going to go for the t28 because less overall hassle. but i wanted to get a 2nd opinion so help me out guys! oh and the car is my DD

Just because the 14b has been sitting, doesn't mean it needs rebuilt. Check for shaft play. You may want to put some oil in it since dry journal bearings will really make it look like it has a ton of play.

The T28 will be a direct bolt on. No changes.
The 14b will take a few changes, but if you're thinking about eventually stepping up to a 16g/18g/20g, you might as well make a switch to the 14b now, so a 16g/18g/20g will be a simpler swap down the road.

if the t28 is fine and has little to no shaft play and 300hps is your goal,, its a direct bolt on so that will be the least hassle

if you at the cost to benifit ratio here -- 50 bucks for the 14b ASSUMING its fine and doesnt need a rebuild your still gonna have to get a 14b intall kit which isnt exactly cheap -- i dont know the cost but thats probably gonna put you to about 150 total( again guys i dont know the cost of that kit )

the t28 will get you to your 300hsp plain and simple and will give you a little room to grow if you so chose but not much more then 350 so all depends on how boost hungry your gonna get

if i were you id just get the t28 and be done with it and enjoy the dd

kinda what im shooting for in the future if i can find a solid used one

good luck

To install a 14b, all you really need to get from the kit is the j-pipe and oil feed. Other than that, you can reuse parts from your t25.

I forget the exact trick, but there's some way to reuse your stock lower IC pipe to connect it directly to the j-pipe. I think you just switch the ends, so the side that used to connect to the SMIC now connects to the j-pipe. Don't hold me to that though.

J-pipe, oil feed, and the necessary gaskets to install a 14b might run you $90 if you shop around.

300 to 350hp is my goal since its my dd I dont want something that is bad on my gas mileage. so a small 16g would be as big as I would go. ive never seen a used t28 for sale so I think $120 is a good price.and from what I heard the t28 and small 16g are similar power wise and I would think a s16g would be quiet a bit more then $120 in good shape

I run a 14b in my daily driving car and properly modded with supporting software for tuning, it can be a beastly street turbo. it spools fast and can make a lot of power.

I plan on jumping to a 18g soon, its exactly the turbo I need to reach my goals, so the conversion will be easy since all the oil and coolant lines are the same.

I have never run a t-25 or a t-28 turbo, so I can give you any input on them.
