I'm looking into getting a new turbo and I don't feel like dishing out 700 for a new T28. If I got a 14b and ported it and clipped it then would it at least be somewhat like the T28. :talon:

No.
The T-28 is more similar to a 16g turbo, with a more efficiant compressor wheel then on a 14b. Basically a T-28 will make 18lbs. of boost easier and cooler then a 14b. The 14b is not a bad turbo, especialy for a daily driver looking to dump the T-25.
Port it? Yes, better exhaust flow.
Clip it? No. With the time and money to do it and have it balanced you could buy a better turbo.

I'd just try to get a 16g...it's gonna treat you right. I just got one..and it is better then the 14b. I had changed over to a 14b, but the 16 is much better...
Just my .02$

do you guys think that it would be a noticable power gain in going from the T25 to the 14b. I would rather have the 16g but I can't afford one, so would the 14b be worth it? :talon:

I agree. The 14b will definitely be better than the t25, but don't expect it to do miracles (unless you're very knowledgable). Decent 14b's are fairly easy to find with a good price <$100. In fact, I'm about a week or so away from dumping my t25 in favor of a 14b :D

i very recently dumped my T25 for a 14b and i love it.. Heck of a difference over the t25.. i recommend it for anyone with a t25 and a low budget :thumb:

you can find used 16 g turbos for 400 or less. Just search a lot and make sure there are no cracks / leaks and very little to no shaft play. The t28 is much better than a 14b, however.. if your gonna down grade, be sure its 14b and not a t25
