Hey, I'm looking into upgrading my suspension system here in the near future and wanted to hear my fellow DSM'ers opinions on suspension style. I'm looking for a drop of 1-1 1/2" below stock. Also, I want it to be slightly stiffer over stock to help in those launches and whatnot. I'm looking at a budget of probably around 300 bucks or so.

Well if you are on a budget you might have to buy some used ones off someone, but if you have some money to buy new ones you should get KYB AGX struts and either H&R or Eibach springs.

I would say go with Eibach Pro-Kits. Had them on a previous DSM and loved them. Ride was very good, and the drop was just about perfect. Just enough to get rid of the fender gap, but not so much that I was dragging overy every little bump. I will be putting them on my current car in the very near future. I second the KYB AGX's as well. Very nice shocks, and at a pretty good price.

I agree, if you are in a budget you are going to have to get used ones. I would go with a Tokico Blues and a Eibach pro-kit combo.

i have tein coilovers , they are sweet..fully adjustable. just not quite the cheapest way to mod your suspension.

Just a bit of experience from one FWD driver to another. Stiffer suspension won't do all that much for launches. It willl help but not as much as chainging your frunt suspension gometry. You need to go to the front lower control arm and drop the rear connecting point to the chassi. Drop it about 1 inch or so. You'll have to do fab up a plate and drill holes in it to do this. But it greatly helped my 1g FWD launching. By far this had the greatest effect on my antilift characteristics. I don't know about FWD 2Gs, but my friends 2g AWD has an upper control arm. Youll want to do the opposite to the upper if you have one to retain the antidive programmed into the suspension. And the same thing (I believe) to get even more antilift and keep the contact patches between the front tires and the road wide and consistant.

cool thanks for the reccomendations. If i upgrade the springs do I have to also upgrade the shocks and viceversa?

For best results yes. But a set of shocks that contract easier than stock and expand slower than stock will be most of what you need out of the spring/shoch set. You can get the shocks now and good springs later. But you want to drop the car. So just get both. Research springs and shocks to find what has yielded the best results with FWD.

Stock shocks will blow out fast if you use springs which lower the car. Heck, even a saggy stock spring will cause a stock shock to blow out real fast. This is because it bottoms out and the seals get torn up.

Good point. Just one more reason to upgrade together...
