Hey,

ok i have 2 subwoofers in my 99 eclipse. Two 12" rockford fosgates P3 PUNCH. they were on my last car and worked greattt.I installed them on my DSM and it works fine but as i turn the volume up it shuts off like my radio goes from 0-45 volume it will work till 14 than if i go 15 the shut off and on (mayne not enough power??) so heres the deal like i said they work till 14 if i press the brake the shut off i let go of the brake they turn on. ANYTHING that i do that uses 12V like HEADLIGHTS,BRAKE LIGHTS,BLINKER will make them shut off i sanded the ground till its bare metal and its a really good place.

DO I NEED TO UPGRADE MY ALTERNATOR? OR MAYBE THE ALTERNATOR WIRES is what the call BIG 3 UPGRADE? which add another 4GAUGE wire from the alternator to the battery for charging and one from the battery negative to ground?

WOULD BIGGER WIRES GIVE MORE POWER TO THE SYSTEM?

p.s BY THE WAY I DO HAVE A 2.0 farad capacitor that is suppost to recharge from car battery.:thumb:

HELP HELP HELP guys

What amp are you running?
Are you sure you have your cap hooked up correctly?
YES you should have a power wire bigger than 4 gauge for two 12's. You want the cap as close to your amp +12 bat as you can get it within reason. If at all, use bigger wire from the cap at least.
Make sure you have a fuse as well.

Do you have more than your sub amp in the car?
It sounds to me the amp is hitting a cutoff voltage when it cuts out. It prevents damage to your components.

I have 4 gauge wire running from battery to capacitor with a fuse.

+ of battery to + of capacitor.
- of capacitor to ground and - of amp.

I know how to install it i had this the same exact way in my old car and i could blast that thing as high as dam possible dame wire kit same amp same subs.

just seems like i need to upgrade the wires that charges the battery to bigger wires called the BIG 3 UPGRADE with a 0 gauge wire .

My buddy had this problem once...I think we got bigger wires for power and ground, and maybe a cap...

It's pulling too much, and just shutting off...You could turn the amp down a tad.

the amp is mounted to the side of the subwoofer box and the capacitor is mounted right next to it running less than 1 feet of wire to the amp they say THE CLOSER THEY ARE THE BETTER. but the things is if i like USE THE HEADLIGHT OR APPLY BRAKES they stop until i release the brakes so maybe the car isn't producing as much power to supply car+subs?

thats why i tought maybe upgrade the car wires because hoe come it worked great in my last car same wire same everything just a different car?

check your grounds. sounds like a bad ground. you might have to relocate a ground wire.

are your volts dropping? do you have a volt meter you can hook up to moniter your volts and amps when this is happening?

4 gauge wire is sufficiant for your system. i used 4 gauge with a 2400 watt d class amp and 2 DVC kickers and i had it droped to 1 ohm. your dont need bigger wire. its sounds like a supply problem to me... do your headlight and dash lights dim badly?

willye_br. I have the same problem as yours.

please check the following.

1. wirings/groundings.

2. battery if it is old/ check also your alternator.

3. mounting especially if it is kicker or simillar.

tell me if it helps:thumb:

post a picture of where you grounded you amp and that would help. it sounds like a grounding problem, or have you spliced any wires such as the remote turn on?? check your wires for frayed spots also if you some how ran your power cables behind you pedals for some reason and you apply the clutch or brakes it would kill the connection...(if it has frayed due to rubbing i had a vacuum line brake like that once, don't ask i was young)

going off what you have posted on how it shuts off its(possibles are) a bad ground or frayed wire making contact. with a cap you wouldn't lose power the way your saying. retrace your wires from the battery back for starters

with the eclipse the wiring for the cd player are the easiest to do . for the amp turn on make sure that you are using the power ant. wire you should have three wire together right there and for the ground run speaker wire from you harness to the mounting bracket on your radio so it stay together with the wire and cd player. make sure you wires on wraped really good because you could be ach energy to the relay that sit behind you radio. make sure your rca are good if they are old get news one because for high power system they can cause the radio, battery, and your car to act funny. just double check everything that has to do with these thing, because i have installed system in eclipse about 1000,times already, and im only runing 6gauge wire and im putting out 900 rms on 3/4 om and no light dim or anything let me know if you need anything else

MY DIGITAL capacitor never goes under 12v its always displaying 13.8 14, 13.2 but maybe it is a bad ground that ill just have to find another one.

where did you ground your system in the car?? one of the easiest spots i have found is under the rear seat belts just scrape or scuff the paint just to make sure its on bare metal. i have my system grounded there and have never had an issue if that does not help start at the battery and work you way back looking for frays where it could short out.

OK GUYS i found out something. i tested my alternator its good battery is good ok so when the car is ON and IDLING the audio capacitor in the trunk displays 13.9v.if i turn on the headlights it will decrease to 13.2v and if i turn on the heater blower THAT'S WHEN THE AMP STARTS TO GO INTO THIS 2SEC STOP MODE i figured it out that every time i use voltage the capacitor drops and every time the capacitor goes under 12.5 the amp like goes into a standby mode its like a 2 sec thing.(SO BASICALLY MY AMP ONLY PLAYS IF CAPACITOR IS GREATER THAN 12.5V. so i guess if i use all my things such as headlights brake lights neon blah blah. The capacitor is suppose to be sHowing 13.5-14v and its going under 12.5v which mean my alternator is not keeping up which makes me think of upgrading the wire from alternator to battery to a 0 gauge instead of a TWO 8 gauge(stock). maybe that will allow more voltage flow and i also will look for a new ground just to double check what do you guys think?

If you have a Multimeter you can check alternator voltage with lights and heater and everything on. It may not be an alternator issue.
Check resistance on your power from alternator to the cap/amp, as well as your grounds. From alternator case to your amp ground. Is your ground strap on the engine?

for a simple check try un wireing your cap see if that helps any. i mean caps are a great addition but still try running your system with out and see how that helps

i have 4 gauge power wire and 4 gauge ground wire. My ground wire is about 3 ft long going to a screw in the spare tire area which i sanded till bare metal.you said try without a capacitor, but isnt the capacitor suppose to HELP instead of giving problems LOL?

yes a cap will help by holding voltage but its just a suggestion sense you are having so many problems its just trying to sort out the possibles of what could be going wrong with your "juice" not getting back to the amp... its just starting at basics and then going from there do wires to amp only if that works re wire the cap if it starts to mess up still you have found you problem. If it doesn't help its time to look into your fraying wires. Not sure if you have traced the entire system yet.. let me know how that turns out. and then if once you have checked all that and if the system still is cutting out replace your amp... i had a sound stream and a Sony explode do this to me years ago it turned out i had blown apart the insides of the amp through heat and age. And if it is the amp, scrap it and get an MTX LOL just my personal choice yea there old but shit mines almost 9 years old and still thumps

let me know how this works out for you bud i know system trouble shooting it a bi*** but its worth it in the end

if after all the and its still doing it rip the subs out of the box to ensure the wires have no way of touching just another thing i have personally run into over the years and had the same thing happen

hope this helps

Yea i will run an extra ground wire thats a great idea where is a GREAT place to put a ground guys?

Ok i just finished doing the SECOND ground i did it in the back seat under the seat belt there is a good place sanded till bare metal, ran a wire to the capacitor just like the other ground. STILL NO LUCK like it will play LOUD but my volume is 0-35 at 25 still plays but lets say im on 25 and i turn on the heater it shuts off and on like LACKING OF POWER than if i turn the heater OFF it will play normally so idk whats going on anymore im thinking i need bigger wires from alternator to battery to make sure it delivers a lot of power to battery idk what you guys think.?
