HELP: Need Advice on how to stop vibration from subwoofers

I need advice on how to get my car to quit vibrating when i turn the music up. I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse with 2 10" Eclipse Subwoofers in the trunk. The problem is that the trunks interior as well as most of the car is almost all plastic so whenever I turn the music up loud the whole car vibrates and it sounds horrible from the outside. I think the problem is because there is too much pressure in the trunk. I was wondering if there were any ways to deaden the sound of the plastic vibrating or other ways to get the sound to stop. yeah it's called dynamat extreme, and new clips and retainers...

works wonders.

Not really mechanically related and shouldnt be here but yeah, dynomat work$.... I had 2 12"mtx 7000 with 800watts. Vibration bumper to bumper. No real way of stopping it.

There is stuff you can get at home depot thats works quite well as sound deadening for alot cheaper as well.

Great Stuff from home depot, its like 5 bucks a can. I used it on all my interior parts just lining the inside of the plastic w/ it. Makes feel like a well built car

After reading the "Defiant Fan" thread, I'm rather disappointed. This one begged for a better response, especially when one thinks about what, exactly, a sub-woofer is designed to do.

Dynamat is too epensive. The stuff from homedepot racing will come up if you don't know what you're doing. Expanding foam has caused ripples in the cars outer surface if you fill body cavitys with it. Best bet is a spray on or roll on liquid sound dampening. Second Skin audio comes highly recomended, and has great deals. http://www.secondskinaudio.com/products/specials.php for some b-stock stuff, I know they usually have a "preorder" page with stuff thats pretty cheap.

please keep in ming the you can eliminate resonances only by two things...
remove the device causing the resonance, or changing the resonating panels frequency.


This can be done in two ways, increase mass, ir increase stiffness.


All of the home depot stuff just doesn't work as well unless you sinply slather it on 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick... (too thick for a car environment) as one layer of dynamat extreme (the kind with aluminum backing) It weighs about 2/3s what the regular dyna does but seems to work 2 -3x better becasue of the stiffness... also no asphalt/tar smell.

you can also reorient the subs, play with reducing xover points... and increase stiffness by making sure all interior trim is tight.
