why would you do 8 12's instead of say, 2 kicker 18's? The two 18's would take that 1500 memphis amp all day and prolly leave him a backseat I think.

kicker doesn't have quite the frequency response and clarity of volfenhag. Heck, i'm more picky about amps than I am about subs. If the THD isn't low enough, i wouldn't even bother with it for free. haha. anyway. I'm going to put 1 12" and 1 10" volfenhag in my 4runner when i have a bit of extra cash. I don't really want that much thump, i just want the massive clarity.

You would have to have a mini-van for the enclosure required to properly run two Kicker 18's. There's a huge difference in making a system "look" good and actually "sound" good.

I think I read somewhere that the newest Kicker Competitions require like 2 cubic feet of sealed enclosure which isn't much at all for an 18 IMO. Aren't they called "Comp VR" that means volume reduction or something?

I am about to drop 4 10" MBQuart subs in my trunk and power them with 2 Memphis ST1000-D amps. I am also putting 4 6x9's and 2 6.5's in my car and powering them with 2 Memphis ST500-D amps. This will be a 2000+ watt system when I finish it. Currently I have a 10" MBQuart sub powered by an MTX250 amp and it hits pretty good.

i've got one 1000d in mine and that thing woudl dim the #@%#@%#@%#@% out of my headlights. but i didn't have a cap also. oh and in case you didn't know those sub amps were tested at a true 997 watts on 12 volts so you'll clear 2000+ very easily.

I'm running two eclipse 12's (black series) off a Fosgate Bd1000.. it slams pretty nicely.. i made the box sealed, but i am now adding mdf inside of it to make the volume smaller.. I blew, i should say, ripped apart my subs a few weeks ago, but they should be back from eclipse sometime next week.. that's what fosgate power does to subs.. 600 watts a piece to each sub.. i guess i'll keep the volume down this time.!

imo, get 2 12 inch MTX thunder 8000 subs and run them with 2 1000DB Rockford amps. i heard 1 12 inch thunder 8000 that was gettin 148 decibles(worked with the guy).

Well I just installed a 12" mtx thunder4000 400watt sub and rockford fosgate punch 200s amp, which is feeding my sub at 200 watts on my 95 gsx. It's not the most impressive system but for the past couple of days I have been loving what I got...it hits hard and clean and for me at least thats all I want. I paid about 250 for the sub and amp and like 20 bucks for the wiring...and just did it myself. Overall I am enjoying mtx and RF. Hope that helps a bit.

If we are going overall price/spl/sq then I prefer qx series Phoenix Gold. When I had a system in my old car a ran 2 of the Xmax PG 15's and their Ti600 amp. My friend bought the setup and it is in his blazer now he has hit a best of 152.something with it. He has officially hit a 153.3 in USAC in my homemade box, but he had 2 ti600's at the time.

But to answer your question all the brand whores will tell you that theirs is best but if you get a good deal and it sounds ok then I don't see ths issue if you aren't competing, because you can always upgrade later. If you get really into stereos nothing will stay in you car very long anyways, always upgrading and re-installing. I have a Kenwood Excelon deck, 200 watt soundstream amp behind the crossfire components up front. Crossfire 6x9's in the stock back seat locations. In the trunk there is a crossfire BMF 10 in a sealed enclosure with 1.25 cubic feet "i think, built it over a year ago", and a soundstream lil wonder powering it. Its not super loud, but its plenty for me. I have always like crossfire subs and have never had any problems, guess i am lucky.
