i run 2 10" alpine type r's wired in parrell with a custom sealed box. they are powered by alpine v-12 class D 500 watt mono amp. i run the subs off an alpine head unit with monster cable 8 gauge cables. the subs hit deep and are alot cleaner than 2 12's. My friend has 2 12" MTX 8000 series subs and i beat him in a SPL comp ( i forget what i hit ). but i recomend anything alpine, and 10's they are cleaner and if you set it up right you can out thump alot of 12's..

I think Eclipse subs that are aluminum are great. Thay have the name of your car on them, the probably look the best, and they are top quality. If you have the money the BEST sub is probably JL W7 it just depends on what you want to spend.....

like herostar it all depends on the box(get bandpass) if you are gonna get subs from best buy find someone who works there and throw them like 20$ and tell them to get the subs for you the get like 60% off on subs and speakers i worked there last summer what kind of amp are you planning on getting.

I bought a bandpass from Car Toys, and it was loaded with an RF 10" and ran off a Kicker amp, 360watts. It sounded cool, but only certain songs sounded great. Like Moby's Play, track 4 hit like a MOFO, but Sublime's April 26, 1992 was lame. Then I built my own sealed box using the T/S parameters and hit everything well, except Moby didn't have that omygawd bass hit. I recomend listening to sealed, ported and bandpass boxes in a car similar to yours with the music you play most before you make the purchase (DSM's try a hatch-back, WRX's try a trunk, etc):dsm:

well the only subs they have at the best buy here are rockford fosgates, sony xplod's and some "lightning audio" or someshit.. the rf's sounded the best........

im running one memphis "studio" 12 and a 1000 watt lightning audio amp and it hits hard as hell, but still sounds good. i listen to more hard rock and metal than rap, and i can still out hit the boys with 2, 3, and sometimes 4 subs with bass cd's. they run around 200 a 12

Rockford Fosgate actually owns and produces Lightning Audio. Kind of low-end products, but they're decent. Trust me, Best Buy & Circuit City are NOT the places to get "quality" car audio equipment. And their so called "pro" installers are usually pathetic teenagers. I use to work there and I wouldn't trust those guys if my life depended on it. Just a heads-up.

I totally agree with natef420 on the Memphis audio. I got a set of 12s in a ported box, an they play everything well. from low to mid to high bass. I alsp spent hours working on the box tho and thats were the real clarity comes in. A sub without a box is hopeless, but a sub with a properly designed box is amazing. start with the t/s parameters and then play with port lengths and sizes. I listen to everything from rap to korn and i dont miss a beat. the memphis speakers are tighter than most 10s ive heard, but move the air of a 12 and i picked them up for 350 canadian! an that was new. I am running it off a pioneer amp which is running 100 watts at 4 ohms to each speaker. the amp isnt the clearest and i hop eto upgrade, but its only runnin a sub which doesnt play much above 200 hz. with this question ur just gonna get wat every one has in there cars. use ur ears to decide wat sounds best man

ummm, i dont know wut is wrong with all of you people, all i'm hearing is JBL, kicker, blah blah, right here is the bomb... get ya a "MOJO" *memphis 2000 watt comp series amp, 2 Rockford Fosgate Power 10's and get 2 virtual technologies boxes, they fit almost perfectly, would only have to do a little filling in... they are some of the clearer sounding subs i have ever owned and they BUMP like no other... i'm hittin 155's with these, that right there fellers is the ultimate in car audio

I'm just wondering how your car's electrical system (unless you've upgraded) handles this amount of power? I have about 1000 watt total system and my lights dim noticeably with the volume turned up. I can just imagine what double that would do...

kicker solo's are loud, i'll give them that. apline type-r's, while not being that loud, are incredibly clean.

If you want huge massive bass go with the audiobahn flame sub. I don't remember the model off the top of my head, but there are some new shops that sell them on ebay.

If you want big bass (not like the audiobahn) and incredible clarity, i'd suggest looking at volfenhag. The frequency response range is incredible.

my lights dim alot, EVERYTHING, except the cdplayer itself... i think my alternator is giong out though, and my guy has suggested that i put an xtra battery in... i have had this for about a year now though without any problems at all, an upgraded alternator is really all that you would need, but the xtra battery will decrease dimming tremendously, as i'm sure you knew.... but no major probs so far

Ok, well whoever told you an additional battery is going to prevent dimming, I would stay away from. An extra battery is only going to be beneficial when playing your system with your car turned off. With what you have, I would definetly upgrade your alternator (a much bigger one) and also your vehicle's electircal wiring (thicker gauge). An Optima red top battery could be good as a "replacement" of your current battery...but not in addition. A couple 1 farad capacitators could be helpful also, but I would first focus on upgrading your alternator & wiring. You do this and you're not only going to prevent the dimming lights, but also greatly increase your system's performance. Right now, your amp(s) are not getting anywhere near what they should to perform at their fullest.

well i guess my mind was kind of made up for me, one of my good friends is selling me two kenwood tornados and a 800 watt amp for 100 bucks, cant beat the price so i jumped allover it... anyone heard anything about kenwood tornados? i tested them out and they hit nice and deep...
