Just what the title states. What are the advantages of having a stutterbox, any disadvantages. I know it cuts fuel and timing to hold at a certain rpm point, but how does it work?

I use a msd dis2 for my stutterbox.

It made a big difference in my launches. It made them a lot more consistant, plus you leave the line with boost. Without one you leave with almost nothing.

Anyway, I thought it was a good investment.

Loads up the motor and builds boost. Hard launches but hard on everything else. Sounds mean as hell if you run a cut out.

Before I got my stutterbox, the car always spun when I did the quick slip at 5500-6k rpm. It doesn't spin at all when I launch it now (except the 1-2 shift OMG ) and I seem to get much better and consistest 60's too launching at 5500rpm. I plan to raise the launch RPM to around 6200rpm on a "slightly bigger" turbo next year. :thumb:

Yeah....it sounds mean as f*ck too. I always hit the stutter box on the street when some fart can car starts revving at me at the lights. Nevertheless, they quit.  OMG

God i cant wait to get mine! LOL

Ive never launced with a sutter, but ive always heard its a little hard to learn? was this the case with you? also how much boost are you guys seeing when on the box leaving the line?

Yeah i heard em before. And the do sound mean as $hit. I just got my chip today so i can't wait till spring for some racing. :D

A little hard to learn?

I thought it was much easier. All you do with a stutterbox is floor it and wait. :p

I have mine set at 5750rpm and usually ~8psi when I launch.

Nah...it's too damn easy especially at the track where you were used to looking at your RPM with one eye and the yellow light with the other eye.  Now, all you do, is look at the last yellow light. I have an SBR GT12 and I have seen it build upto 10psi before the take off holding the 2-step for a few seconds. OMG

Your R/T at the track also improves dramatically due to your full concentration on the tree other than your gauge panel or dash.

You can actually now personally adjust how quickly you want to release the clutch with the 2-step. If you feel the launches are a little bit too soft, you just let it build "a little more" boost and slip the clutch much much quicker. Nothing to it. ;)

I like mine. 5250 2 step and I build about 15 psi at the line, gotta love antilag. Sounds like numerous shotgun blasts going off with accompanying flames popping out every now and then. :thumb:

Thanks guys just wanted to clear that up. Wow can't wait to put the new chip in and go for some runs. Only 3 more months till spring :D :D

I got mine a few months back. I have not used it for a launch yet since I am still tuning it up. That and Im kinda nervous that with the welded center diff I might break something. I doubt it but I dont want to break it til summer anyway. It is fun to play with other people they definately get wide eyed. However the Never lift to shift feature sounds alot harsher but once again still waiting to try it. Well worth every penny I have never heard of any cons on it though.

I use an MSD DIS2 as well for a two step at 5500rpm and it works awesome. I use about 65% throttle while holding it then floor it just as I leave the line. Too much more than 1-2psi of boost and it spinns all the way though 1st which makes my 60ft times worse.

Honestly there are no con's at all to a two step.

Why dont you try a lower RPM with more boost? Either way, if it works it works :thumb:

I couldnt launch for nothing when I got the fidanza in. The studderbox helped all that out. I have to launch at 5500-6000 depending on the day, and I get about .4-.5bar off the line.

I can get away with higher studders without spinning cause my clutch is tired and slips before the wheels do.

The only bad thing is waiting for the boost to build while on the studder. I usually just ignore the light on test and tune days so I know I get as much of the line boost as I can. I have found a good way though to time it right. As soon as the other person is done staging, then I hit the second staging light. Right then I floor it. If the guy controlling the lights is on it, then Ill just hit .4bar as its time to go.

I don't know if you 2G guys using the MSD box have a way to monitor knock at all but I know in my car that if I just straight floor it I will get knock. If I smoothly ease into the throttle I won't get any. I know Dallas uses DSMlink, do you ever see anything like this?

Sometimes if I just floor real fast ill log maybe 3* of retard, but its just a spike and the retard steps down to zero quickly. I think its more of a phantom thing cause the noise is changing so drastically at that point.

I posted a thread on the link forum asking about this and Thomas suggested the same thing. I always have my CEL come on when I just floor it, maybe my knock sensor is starting to go bad, I do have phantom knock problems until the car is warm. Do you have any sort of PK?

I actually do have problems with my knock sensor being seemingly over sensitive. Im not sure if its actually something with the knock sensor or not.

Since I added the water/meth injections things have been alot better, which leads me to believe I have lots of carbon build up in the combustion chambers. Ill get more testing done soon. Right now the front suspension is off, but is going back on tomarrow.

Where you been hiding Mang. Need to get a runnin dsm out there!

Since it was mentioned about killing your clutch what would a good clutch for the 2 step be. I have the ACT street disc and a napa gold (dont ask) and before the 2 step at 4k it launched good but I dont think this clutch will hold up to too many track days. With that being said I think the act 2600 might be a little harsh on the drivetrin. However I have no personal experience. Any input guys? And does a lightened flywheel more prone to shatter at a launch or in between shifts do you think? My way of thinking was my gt30 would be laggy enough that I could come out of the hole hard and build speed w/o stresing anything to an extent that I repeatedly break the drivetrain.

I use the ACT 2600PP + street disc. I have seen countless launches on that baby. Definitely 100+ alone this year. I drag race alot. :shhh: :D I also normally see alot of knock during the studder. Sometimes it's too much that it pulls my timing way back and I get very lazy launches. At least, I see it on the KD-chip "knock" gauge and let off when I see too much. I just ease back into the throttle and it works just fine. I don't really give a crap about R/T's. I concentrate on my 60's. I normally have the throttle WOT on the 2-step at the tree. The car doesn't spin or anything. It just jumps like a bat out of hell. :thumb:

Trust me, you will not regret it. Oh..and I still have the stock 3-bolt rear. OMG

you must be a clutch dumper. i havent raced my car at the track yet since ive had the studderbox, but i have had a couple street races, well abondaned industrial park races (shh). and at a 5500 rpm studder with foot to the floor building about 7-8 psi i would let off a loud chirp but the car would rip outta the hole. next to zero spin. :dsm: i used to pull pretty damn cionsisten 1.7xx 60 ft.'s at the track last season and ill tell you they definelty felt the same if not a tad better. its all in the slip of the clutch.
