Anybody running something besides DSMLINK or an E-PROM chip for a stutterbox? I don't have an e-prom ecu and I am looking into getting a stutterbox. I was looking at MSD's, but I didn't know if anybody was having any luck with it or if there was something else out there that might work a little better.

Here is what I was thinking about running:

MSD Stutterbox

Any info or suggestions would be great.

From what I have heard/seen the MSD unit has been working quite well on people's cars. I personally use the feature on my aem ems so I can't really comment 100% but a customers car at my friends shop had it, and it worked great.

You don't have to have a MSD ignition module do you? Can you just buy this unit and it work as a stutter box?

I don't think so but if you call summit they should be able to tell you.

I just sent them an e-mail, hopefully they will get back to me, they usually do.

Use the stutter box with caution...They equally work great at launching or breaking trannies!

If you know how to launch you shouldn't have a problem, two good friends of mine use the 2step feature of aem to launch with 20+psi of boost built and they are doing just fine with stock trannies. One is even on the stock 91 tranny that came in the car.

That would really depend on the power they were making, clutch used and available traction. I offered a caveat to someone who was unfamilliar with the set-up and obviously unfamilliar with launching a car with boost built at the line.
Where you front drive guys spin, we crush parts to bits.

I used to own an awd I know the woes of launching an awd at the track. The two above mentioned friends one is a 91 gsx running a act2600 making 475ish to the wheels. And the other is a 95gsx running an act 2900 making 550ish to the wheels. Both running drag radials.

Enough of the pissing match already. The original poster asked for input and advice regarding a stutterbox to which I offered valuable advice.

get an Eprom and chip it with adjustable stutterbox 2-step. thats my .02 cents, I've been happy with it.

I'm thinking that's going to be the best bet. I can pick one up already socketed with a keydiver chip already in it for a decent price. I may go that route.

I don't believe that module is going to work with anything but something that already has an MSD ignition module on it anyway. I have been looking around and it looks like you have to have an MSD ignition on it in order for that to work. It just seems like someone would make something inexpensive that would just make the car stutter at a certain RPM.

As far as breaking trannies, I am running cheap Kuhmo's on the car right now so they will break loose before the tranny snaps. Went to the track last night and actually had traction problems. Best 60' I could pull off was a 1.85 because the track just wasn't prepped right at all.

its a good way to go. I have some all-season kuhmos, stock suspension, and cracked motor mounts, and a 5500 rpm stutter and I cut 1.72-1.73 60 foots.

Same set-up here, minus the cracked motor mounts :thumb:

I planned on swapping to DSM Link before the shootout next year, so I might as well go ahead and get rid of the AFC and just do it up right. I do need to upgrade the suspension next, so I am going to have to wait until after I get all that done.

what! you dont like your car looking like a teter-toter going down the track? :D

ROFL It does look cool when I almost pull that front left wheel off the ground when I launch it. ROFL
