Okay so heres the deal i recently posted a forum talk about how to go about a build on a shell. One guy gave me advice to buy a block, before the shell and build it up then buy the shell any everything else. Well i think im gonna go with his advice after all the research ive done.
okay heres the difficult and idoitic part of it.

1. i have no idea:confused: where to start and what i should pay for a block or what to look for

2. I have no CLUE! on what i am doing when it comes to building a motor other then i just want be A BAD a##'s

3. What are the steps i need to follow and what is a list of parts i need and should expect to pay for (IN the end with shell and everything else i want to spend under 5k and make 400 to 500 hp))

4. Can anyone help me out. Im 17 young dumb(motor wise):ohdamn: fresh and have no instruction or dad to help me through this exicting process

Right on brother.:thumb: let's do this! But need practice and experience to build bad aa$$ motor...that will last. You might want a nice crate motor to just drop in a nice shell ! It would be fun and a nice project- start for you. 5k on the motor..and 500hp will be tough if not impossible, to keep it reliable. And are you dedicated to see it through! I love working on my car,but its tuff. If your are serious. I would love to help. :thumb: Z

pretty much in the same boat as you, bought my dsm when i was 17, 18 now and pulling the motor(with no father or anyone to help me out) and dropping in a built long block from strictly import motorsports, their great people to do business with so far. it is definately worth taking the time in trying to learn every little thing about these cars, it will pay off in the long run.

We need to get a bigger boat cause I am rocking on that boat too.

I bought my 2g when I was 17 and have been using it as a commuter/build car until the end of 2011 when the motor crankwalked. I am not majoring in any type of auto tech and all my knowledge I learned from my Chilton's book, youtube videos, and the awesome people here on these forums.

Search button is vital, if you learn how to play with her right she will love you back...with information of course.

Almost any question you can think of asking it can be found using the search tool.

1. 6 bolt block and crank you can usually find from any of the members from the forums or go to your local junk yard. You can use a 6 bolt N/A crank and block but on the block you need to have oil squirters machined in.

2. Start doing research, figure out what builds work and don't work. Being creative and authentic is good, if you have money for if it fails. There are countless different builds on the forums that have proven time and time again. Also keep in mind that the stock 6 bolt rods are known to withstand HP up in those ranges but yet again comes down to you. You will also need to follow magnusmotorsports 6 bolt 2g swap article.

One thing though I would recommend modding the car very slowly, if your use to driving the car with a stock 7 bolt and then the next time you drive it, its running the 400-500 hp your seeking especially with limited driving experience, no offense, it can lead to a whole lot of mess. My build still isn't up and I am waiting to put on the turbo + 2nd tune for it. Better to know how to control the beast than let her run rampant.
