I have a 91 talon that has a striped oil drain bolt connecting to the oil pan.
The car is currently at a shop i had a new wiring harness installed.
The shop would like me to get my car out of there lot as soon as possible.
so i dont have a lot of time to work on it and i need to get my car home about 30 miles. droping the pan is not an option. so i have heard about a 1/4 20 bolt what is it and how does it work. second people have said the rtv'ed it and got them home
i bought a drill and tap but not enough room to get a drill in there. {awd} just would like so backing on what to do kinda confused thanks for reading

cody.

i didn't understand that at all, title says you need to take the pan off then you said taking it off isn't an option. if the oil drain bolt is stripped, try to take a demel and make a notch in the bolt, then take a flat head and unscrew it.

like i said im not sure of what you were asking but i gave you an answer on what i could interpret.

A 1/4 20 is the size of a bolt. It is a little bigger and different threads than the regular bolt. I used rtv and a 1/4 20 bolt for a quick fix before. Cover the bolt in rtv and thread it in. You'll need a new pan or thread a bigger bolt.

His oil return line bolt holes are stripped in the pan. OP try to thread in a slightly larger bolt in the hole with a dab of RTV. If you cant drop the pan then your options for a proper fix is limited.

yea i think it was you who was talking about it. drill and tap? i tried to drill and tap but wasn't enough room.

ok now i understand a little better haha, theres no need to drill the hole bigger, if you can get a tap and a small ratchet you should be good to rethread the holes. it only takes a minute or two to do each one but you dont want the metal shavings in the oil pan when your done.

edit - make sure you know what size tap your using though and bring 2 extra bolts with you.

i have a m8 1.25 drill and tap is this what i need and i dont need to drill it to retap it to m8? or retap m6?
