Hi there guys, new member here, just purchased a 95' Talon N/A with 5spd... and am now working out the kinks! My biggest issue is a strange noise that seems to be coming from the trans, its a grinding noise of sorts (instantly I think Throw out bearing) but the car will sometimes make the noise when it is not moving at all and is at idle (did this morning, was also very cold out), but then will not make it at idle again once the car warms up... it makes the noise most the time though when you are moving along and then let off the gas, once you let off the throttle it makes the noise, but if you hit the gas at all, any little bit it does not make it... also if you hold in the clutch it does not make it...
Unfortunately that is the best way to describe it!
I really have no idea what it is, at first I thaught throw out bearing but when it made the noise today when I first started the car I do not know... maybe a issue with the master/slave cylinder? Any help is always appreciated!! Thanks-
-Michael

Hey guys just an update, drove the car and I noticed that it does the noise ever so slightly when the clutch is compressed and I am coming to a stop, but it is very quiet... I still dont know about a throw out bearing, I read a lot of times you can feel it through the pedal, and I cant feel anything, it feels great and the clutch grabs good, it just sounds like the clutch is rubbing when I let off the gas, but when I get back on it... it grabs great... Is this a pressure problem? Master/slave cylinder?

There's a possibility that it's an input shaft bearing or a throwout bearing. the symptoms kinda sound like it could be either, push in the clutch and it and the noise quiets down. you say it quiets down when it warms up . sounds like the lube is getting up in to the bearings inside the trans as it warms up . have you checked the gear lube level .

Tomorrow I am going to check for leaks around the master/slave cylinder and then the trans oil level.

It is hard to say what the symptoms are, the only time it ever makes the noise every time is when I let off the gas, it is most loud around 25-55mpg as well, above that it is pretty quiet and below that it doesn't make any noise... only once has it ever been audible while the clutch was engaged, otherwise every other time it is silent with the clutch engaged... and then only once has it ever made noise from start up, every other time it is silent. Very confusing... and annoying!

In my experience when there's a load on it, the input shaft bearing will growl intermitently, until warmed up and even then will do it when it wants to. but when i step on the clutch it goes away most of the time. I have a fairly new throw out bearing ,and even checked it out when i had the motor and trans out about two weeks ago. what i found is the input shaft has more play than it should. just a thought.

I will add heat shields to my check list, and I will make a vid tomorrow to try and help... maybe someone can pinpoint it...

another question, could it be some sort of back pressure problem with the exhaust? I know the guy I got it from said they put on different exhaust (he said they put on the turbo exhaust... is that even possible?), and the car only makes the noise when back pressure would be being created when I let off the gas... and that might explain why it goes away when I hit the gas or press the clutch.
