I posted this to the NEDSM mailing list already, so it might look familiar to some of you. I didn't get much response from there, so figured might as well see if anybody here has any input:
Hey guys, I need some help with this one:
My car seems to act very much like it has an intake leak. All of my fuel trims are pretty much at 139 (high is 137 if that matters). The car doesn't idle very well, and will swing up and down a few times before it will settle usually. I did a leak test last night, and came up with just the same tiny leak I've always had at the TB (it's pinhole, shouldn't matter that much, should it?). Just recently, the car got a 3" exhaust, some porting work of the wastegate area, Walbro 255, AFPR (stock pressure), and new fuel filter. The fuel trims, and behavior was the same before the mods. I had figured before that the pump was going, or the filter was clogged, and it was just a bit starved for fuel. I get fuel cut and knock very easily, both at less than 15 psi. At idle after fully warming up, I see around 31 Hz airflow on a stock, unmolested 1G MAF. Other info about the car: 1G AWD, 2g pistons, ACT 2100, MBC, 16G, Walbro 255, AFPR, blocked off EGR, no emissions stuff at all anymore (thanks Kyle). The O2 sensor is _fairly_ new, and appears to cycle normally but has seen some leaded gas (but it did this before then), but I am going to order another one soon. The car seems to run really rich all the time, the exhaust smells like gas, even though the O2 seems to report a lean condition. I have new plugs to install that I haven't yet, and I'll inspect the old ones when they come out. There is a slight exhaust leak between the head and manifold (warped), but it doesn't appear to be very bad, and when it heats up it goes away.
What could this be? I don't see any obvious loose vacuum hoses, and the intake leak test didn't reveal anything. Could it be the rubber turbo intake accordion that actually has the leak? I looked at it quickly last night, but it was late and my garage isn't the best lit, and I didn't see anything. I will inspect it further soon though. Anybody know of anything else I should look at, or ways to test for things?
Thanks Tuners,
-Jesse
