Stock Engine Rebuild help

Hello,

I'm new here obviously , anyways I have been searching all day and can't find what I'm looking for. I have 138k miles on my engine in my 97 gst that is completely stock. I'm looking for a detailed list of parts I need to get it rebuilt. How many of each part etc. I don't know much about engines or their internals. I want to rebuild it using most oem parts from either extremepsi.com or jnztuning.com. After the rebuild and down the road a while from now I plan on adding performance parts. I'm not swapping a 6 bolt in it, I want my car to stay reliable and right now I just want to keep it somewhat stock. I plan on rebuilding the engine if I decide to keep it as of right now it is for sale but if I don't sell it before snow and salt gets here and it goes on storage then I'll be keeping it.

Easy look at the vendor sites for parts and prices, even call them they answer phones and tell them what you want to do and go from there, thats the easiest way to to it. Pick a vendor and start ordering parts.

Call the supporting vendor of your choice, and tell them you want a "Master engine rebuild kit"

Honestly, you should wait to get some of the parts untill the engine has been opened up and inspected.

At this point you do not know if the block will stay std, or need boared, also the crank bearings, untill the crank is out and measured, you do not know if it will stay std and polish, or need ground under size.

I'm agree, you can't order much until you get the block apart, all what you can get is gaskets, but that's all.

Poo I didn't think about that, hopefully my mechanic will open it up for free for me since he normally does stuff like that for me. Any vendors you recommend?

You may have got the the names confused.

NPR- Nippion Piston Rings is the OE supplier of pistons and rings.

NRP- Nippon Racing Products is some after market company

alright thank you I'm sort of looking for a cheap way but I still want to keep oe stock internals, I dont want aftermarket crap thats going to make my car un reliable

I doubt the mechanic will do it for free, this is not a simple thing to do, and most mechanics will not have the equipment to check what needs to be, That will be a job for a machinist.

The engine will have to come out, and be fully dissasembled.

It will take a few hours to get the engine out, another hour or two to pull it abart and a couple more to inspect and measure it.


Now depending on your parts selection and budget, along with the install and tune will make it reliable or not.

Not everything in the after market is crap, but reserch of what others have used and tested for your goal. Will get you pointed at what parts and products to use.

sounds like it would be easier to sell it and get me a lifted 7.3 powerstroke so I can haul my fourwheeler and keep my n/a as a daily driver . I look into it, I dont have cash laying around that I can just throw into it . My friend told me to just get a used one from a junk yard and rebuild that one and swap it into my 97, but I don't know. I'll have to make some phone calls . My mechanic worked for mitsubishi/ hyundai for like 20-30 years, I trust him to know what hes doing and he knows what hes talking about, and hes always been very reasonable with me, because I take all my vehicles to him as do my parents also. I don't think he'll charge me much taking mitsubishis apart are second nature to him .

If you need OEM parts beyond gaskets and such for a rebuild I'd highly recommend the marketplace here (there are tons of partouts featured daily with things like injectors, fuel pump, fuel rails, alternators, relays etc).
