1G Stock bov leak issue/sputter

Hey guys

I've noticed an issue with a sputter here and there, stock boost, stock BOV (checked and the diaphragm felt pretty easily push-able in). While I'm idling I can hear it leaking. When I'm getting on the throttle, it feels like it sputters and when I'm cruising between -5 vacuum I can hear it slightly leaking. Could this be related to the leaky BOV? I just replaced a leaky TB and swapped my stock intake pipe for a hard Dejon metal one. Plugs look ok but they are getting up there in miles.

I do have another 1g BOV which seems quite a bit stronger I will be swapping today just in case.
 
I experienced sputter and hesitation with my old original crushed bov above 15 psi.
I do a leak test and this bov started leaking at 8 psi. I crushed little more, to see if is this would work, it doesn't. Ended up by buying synaptic bov.
I'm sure that your other bov will do better if it feel stronger.
 
Changed my bov and still same issue. I can let out the clutch and accerlste and it sputters but if I let off the gas sometimes and regas it, it will pull normally.

Maybe?:
Clogged injectors?
Injector tick(loud) pulling timing on acceleration/ normal cruise?
Bad spark plugs/wires?

I don't have any boost leaks, it also idles fine at 750-900 rpm without any surge. Any ideas would be helpful, thanks!
 
still have to check the gasket on the exhaust manifold, turbo isn't leaking. I know for sure there's a small leak there at the exhaust manifold but even before this issue started the leak wasn't causing a problem. I replaced all my spark plug wires and one thing I noticed was when I slid the spark plug wires onto the coil pack, one of them seemed really loose. The other 3 were snug when I pressed them in. Wondering if this could be an issue with the coil pack and sputtering sometimes on acceleration?
 
woudlnt you get a cel is the wire wasn't pushed in all the way, because that would cause a miss is one of the cyclinders I would imagine
 
Hi everyone, i also have a similar issue on my 2g gsx, since i changed the catback from stock to hks hi-power exhaust it sarts now hesitating at wot, its like it stop boosting for less than a second boost again and cut and boost again. when i sart the car and i drive it for 10-15min until it reach the proper temp and i wot its just fine, after some pulls it start to do that hesitation.
the exhaust has increase some psi. before with the stock exhaust it was just fine.
Ive noticed a leak right to the section where the exhaust is bolted to the cat (stock).
Is it possible it hesitate because of that leak?
 
Have u confirmed u don't have any boost leaks? How long did u pressurize the system for and at what psi?


I did a BL test before I swapped throttle bodies and intake pipe. It's 13 degrees right now so, no, I haven't updated and done a BL test as it's extremely cold working on it.

More that I've noticed though is the engine is ticking non stop. Almost doesn't sound like lifter potentially something else worse. When I'm at a light/stop and accelerate while it's tapping/ticking I can feel the extreme hesitation as it barely accelerates in first gear, sometimes 2nd as well or potentially any other gear but I can let off once or twice and it feels normal-ish (but when I'm slowly letting out in 1st and it's ticking loud it feels like timing is being pulled extensively). I'll post a video of the constant tick tonight.
 
I think the lifters are just done. From what I know, they are original and it has 200k+ on them... The head was rebuilt and it ran very well for 2500 miles with no issues, no ticking. Now this problem with the hesitation just started less than 1 month ago and extreme ticking that stays for a while and only disappears sometimes (the head was rebuilt in Jan 2015). Buying new BPR6ES plugs today and will post an update on the situation. Thanks!
 
Hey guys just changed my plugs and oil. These are the plugs that just came out.

Just went on a drive and it's still the same. It has the same hesitation when the throttle is pushed. I'll do another BLT as well.

edit: since the oil change the ticking sound comes and goes instead of constant before the change. When its not ticking it pulls great, accelerates nicely but when that ticking starts the knock sensor must really be picking it up because it becomes non drive-able, sputters and it's stock.

Well, I have changed plugs and wires and still hesitation. Extremely bad to the point where I can't accelerate up a small hill in 1st with it floored. Will be pulling the PCV today and testing it to see if it's leaking. I'm not sure what else could cause this issue besides a boost leak. Checked for spark and it's getting fuel, no shaft play on the turbo. I'm really at a loss here and this is becoming a nuisance of a daily driver now.

Any suggestions at this point would be helpful, Thanks.

I replaced the pcv valve and my coil pack as well as repositioned my mbc to a better location. I now can boost at my lowest of the mbc which is 9lbs and I no longer have any stutter or hesitation. First feels normal as well as other gears. Hope this can help someone else!
 
where do you bought the pcv valve? is the ebay 10$ pcv valve good? Mitsu dealer ask me 60$, damn expensive for a little piece. is that the right part #MD152772?

PCV part number is: MD024719

The one you listed still would work, but it looks like an Evo PCV valve.
