Hi , I need to put new calipers on the rear and I had to cut the bolts and the slides were completly seized. What are my options as far as new or used replacemnts, can I use a dif year caliper or am I screwed into looking for another 90. Thanks alot for anyone that can help.:thumb:

The rear calipers for the 1g DSM are all the same.

If you want to get one used I would check the classified ads, but manufactured calipers are cheap enough to purchase. You wont have to worry about it seizing up on you anytime soon. I got my new calipers from rockauto, now they are a supporting vendor (for my big brake upgrade, and 3000gt vr4 calipers).

You can always rebuild the caliper yourself. The bolts that you had to cut, are they the ones that allow the caliper to slide? You can always buy replacement parts for the caliper while doing the rebuild. Calan has a great write up on how to do it:

This is a past experience, but one of my friends had a rear caliper malfunction on him, he replaced it with a galant caliper from the same year (91), but there was an issue with the brake line. The galant caliper threaded port was located in an area that caused the brake line to wear and bend and eventually brake. I definitely think it was designed for a banjo fitting like the 2g and evo brake lines.

No they aren't. 90's use a different rear caliper. The e-brake mounts are different and will not work with a 91+ caliper.

I already know they are differant. I need to know if they are interchangable or do I have to use 90 parts.

I must have read over it cause no one comes out and says yes they will swap. I tried messaging some of the guys but no response. Still looking for a direct answer. Thanks

You are right, there is no "direct" answer but there are some strong references:

The green states that it might work

Again, Steve expects it to work, not a definite answer

I wish I could give you one, but to be honest you might need to be the test subject on this and report back with the results. That would be awesome if you could, you would be doing the DSM community a service.

I guess thats what Ill be doing then and posting it in huge neon highlights so from now on it will be there, huge and bright straight to the point.

ATTENTION ALL 90 TALON AWD TSI OWNERS, The non awd rear calipers from the 91 to 94 talon non turbo / turbo are an exsact swap, I do not care what anyone tells you saying they are not the same. Tell them because racecar. The only differance is when you install them in the non awd the ebrake cable bolts on the bottom, all you have to do to make them fit the awd is bolt the ebrake braket leg, ( the peice that is steel and comes off the cable its self and bolts to the caliper ) to the top instead of the bottom. It does not affect anything and your ebrake will work the same. This is an awsome piece of advise because its near imposiable to hunt down cheap new or used rear calipers for the 90s especialy when every site and person says the parts are incompatiable. YOUR WELCOME.

Do I get some kinda knowlage points for this!! :D
