Hello everyone...first time poster.

I recently acquired a 1993 Eagle Talon TSi AWD that sat for almost two years. I am trying my best to get it back on the road...it's a neat little car, and not terribly common any more.

Anyway, as you can imagine, the brakes are were seized all to hell around on the car. I've managed to get the front brakes apart, cleaned up and working but the rears are giving me a lot of trouble.

I've removed the parking brake cable, the parking brake bracket, and bottom guide pin. I've managed to get the caliper to swing up, but I can't for the life of me get the top of the caliper to slide out of the caliper bracket. What would be my best course of action? Should I disconnect the brake line, remove the caliper and bracket together and try and get it out on the bench?

As a side note, the car runs and drives nicely...it just needs brakes and both front CVs to be back on the road. I really hope I can get it going!

Thanks!

It's probably rusted but all you do is pull the caliper of the top guide pin. Pull it toward the opposite side of the car and it should come off. I do remember having to use a thin wall deep 10mm socket so you may wanna double check the bolt situation.

On the back side of the top pin there is a cap, If you get that off you can remove the bolt that holds it in place, Removing the caliper. Once you have it off you can drive the slide out.

The other option, If it is an option for you, Is heating up the caliper bracket with a torch and hammering it off.

I've tried heating it up, using PB blaster and pounding it out. I've done many brake jobs before, but never one where there wasn't just another caliper bolt on the top like on the bottom. You say that is a cap on the back side? Is there any particular method to get it off? I can move the caliper up and down with ease now, I just can't get it to back out AT ALL on the top...I will also need a new dust boot. ugh.
