i just wanted to know how my calipers come apart. yesterday i took off my driver rear caliper. i took out the 3 bolts holding it in but for some reason the caliper would not come apart into 2 pieces. it's supposed to right? i need to know asap as my calipers seized outward and i cant put it back on until i buy a new caliper, but i need to get this 1 apart 1st. can anybody help me?

Bring is back up, needing help. I removed the one bolt at the bottom and the caliper will slide up some. There is a bolt or pin at the top but I have to stick a thin 10mm socket to get on it. Do I need to pull this top pin out? Its a 93 awd rear passenger side.

Once you get one of the pins/bolts out, rotate the caliper up (or down if you removed the bottom one) and the caliper should just slide off the bracket.

If it won't slide off, the pin is frozen. You might be able to hammer it off, then clean the slide pin and bracket. Lube them up good and see if the pin slides freely. Usually the problem with frozen calipers.

How about a picture without the socket attached to we can see the bolt and the bracket in question.

It looks like the seal on the guide pin end of the caliper is gone and you have the socket on the end of the guide pin. If the seal is gone I'd expect that the caliper is rusted to the guide pin but lets see.

Did you follow the link above?

Here's that the caliper and bracket look like on my 91 AWD.

Notice how the top pin is enclosed. The guide pin is the one still in the mounting bracket and fits in the enclosed longer bore of the caliper.

There was is a cap on the end that I removed to put the socket in and it is on the guide pin hex head. The caliper onlys goes up so far, not even far enough to remove the pads. I just button it back up because I couldn't get a answer and didn't want to break any bolts. I think I'm just going to get a new caliper becasue this one might have froze up on me. I did follow the the links above.

The caliper should swing/slide freely on the guide pin. Sounds like yours is frozen inside the caliper.

Does the bolt turn with the caliper when you swing the caliper or stay still? I'm trying to figure out if you have a few degrees of rotation of the caliper on the guide pin or if it's only moving because the bolt is threading in the bracket.

Either way a replacement is likely required.
