Toronto,
Hey just converted my car from auto to standard not to long ago so now its time to rid myself of the crappy 13g. Should i just get a stock 14b for cheap, safc2, injectors, fuel pump, and front mount intercooler etc or upgrade and get a small 16g. I am still looking to keep this car as a daily driver and boost around 17-18psi at most. With that in mind i am looking for a turbo that has a lot of pickup at lower rpm and enough to feel a steady kick on the highway.

What would you guys recommend for me to go with? and for injectors what would be the maximum boost for stock 450's or aftermarket 550cc.

Thanks

If you have the money I would say throw down for the 16g, I just upgraded from my 14b that was in good condition and there was a noticeable gain. If your going to be pushing more than 16lbs you should upgrade to 550s.

On every dsm I have ever owned I do the upgrades in specific order.

Datalogger, gauges(boost, oil pressure, coolant temp) fuel system, exhaust, intercooler, turbo, in that order. Of course there are other modifications that can be done, but this is just the way I do it.

Without datalogging, having supporting fuel upgrades, and removing any major restrictions, you are potentially causing damage to your engine when adding modifications that increase airflow significantly.

yo im running a huge core with my stock 14b, id say if you got enough supporting mods bump that baby to like 19-20 psi untill it starts to go. having it 20+ psi its not going to appriciate it much but if you looking to upgrade it really dosnt matter:rocks: save up while your having some fun

Personally I'd go with a big 16. Cooler charge temps, so when you do go to an FMIC, it's even more effective. I really don't think that a FMIC is going to do you too much good with just a 14b though. The larger compression volume alone (more piping/IC volume = more time/work to compress the air in it) will increase the time it takes to reach full boost.

Assuming you can get 93-94 octane, 550s should see you to about 18psi, with a good tune.

By your modlist, I'd go for a better exhaust before anything else, honestly. Then a fuel pump (and AFPR if you go for a Wally 255, I *cannot* stress this enough), injectors and SAFC (or preferably DSMLink), a wideband O2 so you can properly tune, then start thinking about a turbo upgrade.
Remember, throwing high boost at it isn't going to make anywhere near as much power as setting up a good tune with smooth flow.
