Small 16G or 14b

When I replaced my T-25, I considered buying a used 14b, but then realized for a little bit more money i could get a brand new sm16g that I know wasn't beat to death by the last owner, plus have the extra power that comes with the 16g. Id go with the sm16g unless you want to stay cheap and get a used 14b.

And I say for the price of a small 16g being what it is just get the evo III 16g. :thumb:

I would have gone with the evo3 but I didnt want to upgrade anything else on the car at the time, just put a 190 fuel pump on and have been running it that way ever since.

I think a 14b is far cheaper and easier to find cheap than getting a small 16g, you can get only a little more power from the small 16g and to get it you would need fuel system upgrades like injectors and then for them you would need a logger and A/F tuning or a chip.

There is a jump in price and requirements for upgrades at the top end of a 14b and to bigger turbos. such as FMIC, logger, DSMlink?, fuel system, porting and larger piping. you can get a good amount of power before you spend $$$$$$

Yes that install kit will work on most turbos like 14B's and 16G's. You might want to read the "Homebrew Install Kit" post to figure out what you want/need to buy. You can get by cheaper than that.. good luck :boring:

14b in perfect working condition is not as easy to find as a brand new working sm16g that almost every dsm vendor sells. Sure the 14b is cheaper as far as the turbo is concerned, but you run the risk of buying one that has problems, or will soon. And either way you need the install kit, weather you buy one or make your own, so no cheaper there.
As far as mods, I ran 15 psi on my sm16g with just a 190 pump (Can be found for less then 90 dollars if you know where to look). Im not saying you are wrong anything. I know I dont speak for everyone, but Id rather spend a little more knowing im getting something thats going to last, let alone work.

It's quit the contrary. I talked for a couple hours to a guy that has worked with turbo's for over 20 years and he said "I would rather buy a used turbo than a new one because you know the used one is going to work." If you know there is little shaft play and neither of the wheel's fins are damaged, which makes them unbalanced, you can be more positive the used turbo is good vs. a new one.
On top of that I heard they are selling new EVO3 16g's that are not lasting over 10,000 miles which usually means they aren't well balanced. There are plenty of used 14b's out there, check ebay, i just bought one completely rebuilt and rebalanced in like new condition for $300, probably the most expensive 14B ever sold on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...=7990568803&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT&rd=1
