Starts but dies, then starts again.

i have a 95 talon tsi with a 6 bolt swap. When it sits over night and i try starting it in the morning it turns over and starts but then dies. I turn the key off then start it again and do it probably 3 more times and then it starts and idles fine. Any clue what would cause this?

Check mas, i'd get the alt checked, and the battery.. sounds like its either A. Running off the battery, or running off the alt..

it also sounds like its camd when its just sitting there.. could that have to do with the starting issue to?

hmmm... You mean the car sounds as if a cam is installed? Any CEL?

My first bet is a fowled plug, or malfunctioning coil pack. Take the car to any schucks or autozone and have them scan it for you. Its free and it will help pin-point the problem.

No prob, But do make sure you put a voltmeter on your battery as well, You should be reading close to 14 volts while running. If not then you have either a bad alternator or battery.

These can cause problems like this too.

Coil pack, wires or plugs.As i stated before possibly the battery or alt. My best guess would be the wires.

Ok I checked the battery it's fine, the alternator is fine. I had it
Scanned and came up as P0300 random misfire.

Fix the random misfire, I'd suggest doing a full tune up- plugs, wires etc, if that doesn't fix it then start looking into testing the coil pack

you can test the coil packs before it all just get the car running and start pulling wires if you pull one and the engine doesn't change in sound thats a bad coil pack, switch out the plugs and wires this other eclipse I was working on had the same problems and the fact I didn't have the plugs set up right could have been an issue =p.

So with the engine running I just pull the spark plug wires off each plug?

dont pull them all the way out youll get zapped....... ask me how i know

Just thinking about that makes me want to cringe. I got zapped real bad doing this same thing....

it was my engine coolant temp sensor. starts up just fine in the morning again.
