Starting without the clutch?

I have owned this car less than a week and the other day as I was tuning my idle I went to start it forgot to push in the clutch but it still started right up. Kinda confused on this

There is a plug that is on your clutch pedal that has been unhooked by a previous owner. This allows you to start your car without using the clutch and minimizes wear and tear on your thrust bearing(which causes crankwalk) so it's for the best! Leave it as is!

I have that done too just make sure you don't start it in gear.

Now that I think about it could explain why my front bumper is missing the foglight and is busted up someone probably left it in gear and hit something. I'm just trying to get this car running solid before I decide on what to do with it. Its rust free and for around here that's rare
